andyross
Lately, sometimes when I shift into Reverse, the rear park aid immedately does a continuous tone. The Sync display screen says 'RPA Active', and I can hit RESET to shut it up. If I shift out of reverse and back, it will usually activate immediately again. Next time, it will be fine. I have the rear-view camera in the mirror, and it's clear behind the car. Is this a sign of a possible intermittent failure, or is it just something we have to put up with this technology?
FusionDiffusion
Make sure the sensors in your rear bumper are clean. I've had this happen when they are covered in ice.

BlueOval2010
Mine does that occasionally for no good reason. Sensors are clean and nothing behind me. Thanks for the reset button tip to shut it up.
andyross
The first time it happened, I did wipe them off, as the back of the car was pretty covered with a film of salt. They are very clean now, but it still occasonally does it. It's also suddenly gone off continuously while backing up (not instantly). I'll have to keep an eye on what vehicles may be next to me to see if it's just confused if a car or truck is close to the side and extending behind me?
rpaz61
Might be a sign of an issue with one of the sensors or wiring. Maybe take it in to the dealer to have it checked out.
andyross
It's only done a few times since, and it seems to be mostly related to having a large vehicle next to and extending behind me, like an SUV or pickup. Rather than quickly disabling it, I've found that it often clears itself as I back up at some point.
dabige
I've had a similar experience when backing out of a garage...the sensors would detect the doorframe. As soon as the bumper was just outside of the garage, all was quiet.
