Homercles
Hi All, I am about to switch from my winter tires (with tpm sensors) back to my summer/all season ones (with tpm sensors) and I was wondering if I need to retrain the TPM sensors on the summers/all seasons. When I got the winter tires the dealer programmed the new sensors. I am going to swap the tires myself, but I am not sure if i need to retrain the sensors or if just swapping the tires is fine. I've read the manual but it is not very clear when it comes to swapping back and forth with winters that have tpms on them as well.
Waldo
Yes, you will need to retrain them. The system only remembers 4 sensors at a time.

propwash
What about if you are just rotating the tires? If I do a standard rotation, keeping the same four tires, but just putting them in different positions, do I need to reprogram anything, or can I just rotate them and drive away? I'd like to do this at home because I don't trust the dealers to torque the lug nuts properly by hand.

If you like, you can also do what I do. I let the Dealer rotate them when I have my oil changed ("The Works" package), then I simply retorque the lugs, one at a time in my driveway, when I get back home. Good luck.
propwash
Great idea. Thanks. I guess if I'm afraid of them being overtorqued, I would have to loosen them up and then torque them to specs, right?

Hi propwash. Yes, .I feel the same as you, which is why I retorque after each oil change/tire rotaion. Simply loosen each lug a full turn or so and then retorque it, If you loosen and retorque one lug at a time, you don't even need to jack the wheel/tire off the ground. Good luck.
Homercles
Hrmm.. now I am a little confused. I changed my winters back to my stock 18's last night. Drove around the block for a bit after and the TPM light did not come on. Drove to work this morning, approx 20km, and still did not see the TPM light. So now I am not sure if I need to to have the sensors reset.
