snewman24
Just got done replacing the water pump on my daughter's 2010 Ford Fusion SE, 2.5L engine. I apparently need to bleed the air out the cooling system. After searching the Web, I've discovered where the bleeder valve is but... How Do You Open The Valve??? It's not obvious to me. There is a slot but when I rotate it with a screwdriver it only turns a few degress and doesn't seem to do anything. Is there a trick? FusionDiffusion
Yes, it looks like it's just designed to turn about 30º and then it's open. I think the coolant will come out of the small hole on the side. You open it up and then fill the coolant with the engine off until it starts coming out of the bleed valve and then you close it and run the engine for 30 minutes. You can open it again and the pressure should force any remaining air out. I would also open it up after you've driven for a day or two to be sure all the air is out. It's important that the reservoir cap be open when you are doing the bleed cold so the coolant can flow.
snewman24
OK, after messing with the bleeder valve some more I found that it actually is a threaded plug that is opened or removed by twisting it CCW. Apparently, the tangs that seem to restrict rotational movement are just to keep it from backing out and loosening. If you apply more twisting force they are overcome and the "plug" backs right out. fh901
It's my 1st time posting in a forum so please forgive me if I've done it wrong. Any suggestions/ideas appreciated. (The Ford repair manual is not very helpful and I'm not finding much help on youtube) I'm attempting to replace the water pump on my 2010 Ford Fusion. I've removed the 3 bolts on the water pump. But, I'm having issues loosening/removing the pump itself. Did anyone have this same issue? If you have any suggestions, links, pics or post I truly need it. I've been at this for 4 days in the evening when I get off work and I' m beyond frustrated. Thanks!

I don't remember any problem dismounting the water pump after the 3 bolts were removed. You might "gently" pry it evenly under the mounting lugs if it's a little corroded. It shouldn't take much force.
