akirby
I have had to replace every part in the Drivetrain except the Engine and this. I suppose this is next. I have 91k miles on mine and I had both driveshafts replaced two weeks ago because of the "whirring" issue. Noise is almost gone but not completley, and my mechanic thinks that this part is the issue. Driveshafts or half-shafts?
BrettSettles
I believe it was only half in the front and the whole rear driveshaft. But I may be wrong, which is sad but. I paid 300$ for the front and 1000$ For the rear.
Linc
I know this is an old thread, but it pertains to my concern / problem. I just purchased a 2010 Fusion Scout AWD and I have found a leak at the differential / transfer case that has been dripping onto the exhaust. The TSB listed above and on another forum cannot be followed because the links are dead. If this is a vent problem what is the solution? If this is a seal problem, what is the solution besides the obvious. I have 69k on the vehicle and I like it so far but I don't want this to get out of hand and cost me money. I have ordered the factory repair manuals but I don't have them yet. So I am looking for advice for repairs. Thanks in advance for your help.
akirby
It's called the PTU and there are several recent threads including adding a drain plug and doing frequent flushes and fluid changes.
Linc
I am a new owner of a 2010 Sport with 69k on it. I have discovered the smell and put the car on a lift to find the transfer case covered with lube just above the exhaust and shield. I have thoroughly cleaned the area and will monitor it over the next week to determine if I can find the source. But at this point I put 25 miles on after the clean and there were no signs of the leak. Edited May 10, 2015 by Linc
Linc
Well it appears the leak is the outer seal so I am in for that repair soon. I topped off the fluid and was surprised to find that my fluid was still a golden brown color, not dark or black like others have found. I am going to add a drain plug when I do the seal repair. I know there are a bunch of forums out there with this repair already, any benefit to posting mine here when I get it done?
