RybSE
2014 Fusion SE - Is there a specific reason why Ford went with the "stick" antenna instead of the "fin" antenna most of the comparable models have?
Monochrome11
Ford doesn't imitate.
andyross
I'd think the mini-whip would have better FM reception. I was worried about my 2011 compared against the full whip on my 2000 Sable. I was surprised when I was able to still pick up my Chicago station all the way to Rockford, albeit a bit intermittently. With the Sable, I would usually lose it a bit past Belvedere.
RybSE
I think the fin is a better look, but I don't know if it gets better or worse reception. I do know Sirius Radio sucks, but that's the broadcast out and not the reception in.
jeff_h
We have the shark fins on both cars, I have never expeienced any loss of reception from when the stock antennas were on there.
RybSE
Nice. Is this available from Ford? Is it an easy swap?
jeff_h
Nice. Is this available from Ford? Is it an easy swap? I got them from Visual Garage, cost was $87 each shipped... web site still being built so anyone can send email to the sales address listed on the site and a reply should be within a day, at least it was when I ordered. http://www.visualgarage.com/Product_Overview.html Oh yeah - installation is quick and easy, hardest part is setting up the painters tape (is what I used) on the roof to mark where it will go and once it is straight. As once you peel off the cover from the sticky stuff and push it on, it is ON. I barely touched the roof with it when I was gently setting it into place and had it off by about 1/4" so needed to reposition, even a small bit touching the roof was very sticky -- so just make sure you have steady hands, like playing a game of operation as a kid. BlueOval2010
I don't have experience with the shark fin, but what I know about antennas makes me think that if there is any loss of signal strength it should be minimal. What is lost in height is likely made up with coil turns inside the fin housing, making the length of the two effectively the same. Now, were the OEM whip 10 feet tall maybe there would be a difference.

Each of mine has been a perfect match, if they don't have the color codes shown the below site has them (BT, D7, J4, etc) , click links for other years. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?model=Fusion&year=2014&con=yo&rows=50

Mine is a 2014 Sterling Grey Metallic. I'll put it on the list of things to do. I like the fin better than the stick.
Scott Hafner
Does the Sirius satellite use the same antenna? If so, is the signal affected by replacing with the fin? I really like the lookof the fin, so I will probably replace mine, but I use my satellite radio every day.

I also use Sirius every day and have not experienced any degradation in that reception, nor from the AM/FM/HD.
RybSE
Sirius Radio has such bad sound quality an antenna change could only help.
