2012 SEL Radio Cuts Out

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Looking for help with my 2012 Fusion SEL (Sony audio package). The radio has been cutting out every 5-10 seconds, then staying off for 10 seconds, volume not correctly adjusting, and the sound button is not functional at all. So far I have taken it to the dealer multiple times over the last year for this issue, and they have done a software update, and replaced the radio 3 times so far. Each of these has worked for a short period, then the problem has always come back. Has anyone else run into this issue before?

I took a video this morning of exactly what is happening (link below). Based on some research I've done, the DSP Module, APIM, and a blown Amp are possibilities.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - tired of this issue!

You could have a short somewhere in your speaker wires, I had a car that did that, until i found out that one of the speaker wires was shorting out on the frame of the car. I know the replacements temporarily fixed the issue, but it cold be shifting wires. If the system has a separate Amp i would check (if you can find it, and make sure the connections are all good, and that it has decent ventilation, It could be overheating, my old Montecarlo did that when it got really warm outside, the amp would could out. Lastly i would check all of the fuses, and see if any of them are loose, or even possible blown. Just a few suggestions,

Also if there is an external amplifier, it could be failing,

Thanks Matt - I'm bringing it into the dealership again this week to have them take a look at it, and will mention that. Dumb question - does anyone know if the SEL w Sony audio has an amp? Pretty clueless about that stuff.

eburatti -

Last time I took it to the dealer they replaced my radio and it appears to have fixed it (for now). I think they ended up replacing the radio about 4 times.

One difference this time, was I disconnected all wires connected to the amp and plugged them back in. Not sure if that was part of the problem, but no issues since.

Hope this helps!

Mhendo, Were you ever able to get your radio fixed? I'm having exactly the same problem.

Welcome to the forum, eburatti. What's your Fusion's model year and mileage? Have you had your dealership take a look? Let me know and I'll research some ways to help.

Crystal
