BCOLE6
How do I release my parking brake without the key? Or if the battery is dead? I needed to "roll" my car a few feet, but didn't have my key with me. The parking brake would not release. akirby
First you go get the key, then you release the parking brake. If the battery is dead you have to jump it first (or at least use the jumper cables to turn on the ignition to release the brake. You can't release it without the key and power.
drolds1
See page 166 of your OM under "Battery with no Charge"
RybSE
I really wish people that have the answer would post it ending with "this information can also be found on page XX" rather than just pointing people somewhere else. Part of the purpose of a forum is to find answers whether someone couldn't find it, doesn't have time to look for it or just doesn't want to look for it. Maybe they're at their office and the manual is at home. Additionally there may be other people that could benefit from the answer.
akirby
If they have time to post a question here they have time to look it up themselves. All of the manuals are available online here: http://motorcraftservice.com So "I left the manual at home" excuse doesn't apply. We're trying to teach the people to fish rather than hand them a fish.......... It's a pet peeve but it's not unreasonable to ask people to search for the answer themselves first before asking for assistance. I equate it to having a dictionary on your desk but calling me and asking me how to spell a word. Edited July 15, 2014 by akirby

Well, normally I post quotes directly from the OM for those that may not have ready access. For some reason, today the formatting is screwed up so I couldn't post it and thus chose the next best thing, i.e., the page where the information is written. That's not good enough? If the OP can't go online right now and look it up, unless he's stuck in the parking lot at work right now, this isn't so earth-shattering that it can't wait until he gets home. If someone can't find something, fine. But if one "just doesn't want to look for it, then that's just too bad. That's one of our problems today isn't it? There are so-called journalists today who don't feel like looking things up. We all know the result of that. This is one of the reasons my wife retired from teaching. Kids who don't feel like looking things up now get directions, etc. read to them. That button at the top of the page here called "Search" gets really lonely sometimes.
RybSE
I certainly agree with you regarding today's youth. I don't know if it really applies to a forum promoting itself as the Ford Fusion Forum, but it appears it is the philosophy of the moderator staff (or at least half of it ). Forum Rules - Read your owner's manual and exhaust all other resources before seeking information here. Apologies to BCOLE6 for diverting his/her thread.
akirby
Call us grumpy old men, but I consider it common courtesy to at least make an attempt to find the answer before asking other people for assistance. Otherwise it's just being lazy. It's also much faster for you to look up something in the owner's manual (< 5 minutes usually - you can search the online version) than it is to post a question and wait several hours for someone to either go look it up for you or that happens to know the answer off the top of your head.
RybSE
I'm probably older than you and I enjoy sharing wisdom (if I have any).
