Steering wheel controls.

Hey guys. I've been wondering if my 2013 Fusion Titanium AWD's steering wheel controls light up. I've seen some youtube videos with the same car and theirs lights up. Same goes for my gear shift box when driving at night.

I noticed this a few months ago and finally had time to bring it to the dealer last week and told them that my steering wheel and gear box do not light up when driving at night. The knob for the exterior light is on (A) auto, and brightness is all the way up.

If you guys could tell me if yours lights up that would be great. My dealer simply told me that my vehicle did not come with it equipped which makes no sense since I thought I bought the top of the line model. Could it be part of an optional package that I simply didn't get? or could a fuse have blown and they are too lazy to figure it out. Thanks.

If by "gear box" you mean the gear selector indicator (PRNDL), then yes, federal law requires that be illuminated. Same for the cruise control controls on the steering wheel. This is clearly laid out in FMVSS § 571.101 Standard No. 101; Controls and displays. See the chart here, pg.297.

Let the dealer show you another Fusion on the lot. Contact NHTSA if you don't get satisfaction. They could be fined.

yes they light up. Though the shift lever itself doesnt show what gear your in, thats in the instrument cluster. Its really not a difficult concept, thats unbelievable that they'd blow you off like that, its a simple fix. Theres a bunch of components that light up that are all powered from the BCM from one circuit. They need to look at a wiring diagram. Its not rocket science.

Had to make a correction to my original response. Shoulda looked before I lept.
