medic2586
my daughter has a 2012 ford fusion. problem is rear passenger window will not roll up nor down with that door switch but will with master switch on drivers door. drivers rear rolls up and down with door switch. swapped door switches momentarily to see if it might be switch but still no roll up or down with door switch. intial thought was motr but then....window works fine from master switch. am i missing something???? any help would be greatly appreciated.
akirby
Must be the control module. The switches don't control the window motor directly any more.
medic2586
thanks for the quick reply. i guess it will be going back to the dealer since it is still under warranty. just have to make an appointment with vic bailey ford in spartanburg and get it there. do you know if this is a really in depth repair or what?
medic2586
big thing is and i know this is silly...i didn't buy the car there (it was used and she drives it to college) and i don't want any crap. most all of my deaings with them (vic bailey) have been very good but with her, i just don't want anyone to take advantage of her there on her own. they were great to my dad several years ago when while on vacation, his crown vic fuel pump went out under warranty and i have never forgotten it
akirby
You could try disconnecting the battery cable first to see if that will reset it. Otherwise it should be a quick reset by the dealer unless the module has to be replaced. Hard to say how long that would take. It could also be something else simple that isn't obvious but if you've swapped the switches and it works from the driver's controls that would be the best guess.
BlueOval2010
I'm sure you already checked - but make sure the rocker switch located below the driver's master switches is not turned off to prevent rear seat passengers from operating the windows. It's the one with the two window graphics on it.
akirby
He said the other rear window worked so I assume that's not it. But it won't hurt to check again.
andyross
Even just toggling the child safety switch, and trying both positions, may clear up any computer control confusion.
thefoeyouknow
2012 are not computer controlled. I'll just put that out there. If your right rear switch doesn't work in either direction, but it does from the master, there's no power at that switch. I'll explain. When neutral, the rear switches are direct pass through to the master, and when the master is neutral, both wires in the circuit are grounded. The lockout switch simply turns on or off a power circuit that runs to the back windows so that when NOT neutral, power can be applied to one side of the circuit or the other. The wire in question will be Violet with a white stripe and you can find it under the switch. "But I have one-touch up AND down windows!" That's ok, you still don't have computerized windows. The one touch operation is a function of a small controller board in the window motor. Some have it in only the driver's window, some have it in both front, otherwise the power windows are still just simple circuits. For that matter most 13 and 14's still are, too. It's usually only cars with all 4 one-touch up and down windows that have door modules.
akirby
Interesting. I thought it was all module controlled.
medic2586
if the problem lies in no power to the rear switch, then where might i go from there? I did try the child locks and tried the swithc from the driver side rear door. it did not work but again, the master will control the window. Makes sense that there is no power to the rear passenger swithc but is it fused seperately? anyone? and thanks for the past and future replies in advance
medic2586
sorry for the spelling but my keyboard doesn't know how to spell...LOL. I actually removed the switch from the driver side door and plugged it into the wires for the passenger side switch. window would still not go up or down. Just wanted to clarify that ..and thanks again Edited October 6, 2014 by medic2586
akirby
Whoa - when you said you swapped the switch and it still didn't work I thought you meant the rear passenger window still didn't work with either switch. If the problem stayed with the switch and not the door than that points to the switch itself being bad.
medic2586
More Clarifying.....sorry.... tried the door switch from the drivers side rear door...took it out and plugged it in on passenger side rear door...still no up/down. did not even think to try passenger side switch on drivers rear door....dang it and she wont be back until mid october for fall break....if we haven't gotten it fixed by then, i will try that. oh, by the way, anybody had this done? thefoeyouknow
Did you verify the child locks were off just to be safe? The child locks are irrelevant. They only disable the inside door handle, it's a mechanical function, not an electrical one.

I could easily see Ford adding windows to the lockout feature at some point. And it's really easy to check it.
Waldo
You never know. Sure you do, when you have a wiring diagram.

thefoeyouknow
Follow the circuit with your eyes, if necessary. When it goes through a connector, check power on both sides, and so on. If you're not sufficiently committed to fixing it yourself to pull anything and/or everything apart, then you may want a pro.

Im not a pro but fairly adept at electrical. i used information from the ford fleet site to wire crown vics for police and sherrif dept since 1994 to include light bars, etc. but today is a new day and the pro you speak of is sounding better...LOL and thanks for all the help...you guys are great!
