nForrest
As stated by both drolds1 and akirby, the fuel you use may be your problem. I changed from the "Cheap Stuff" to a Tier 1 gasoline and saw an increase of up to 2 miles per gallon. https://www.consumerreports.org/car-maintenance/study-shows-top-tier-gasoline-worth-extra-price/. I drive a mixed bag of city and highway, mostly city. I average 22-23 mpg and I drive in sport mode most of the time. I just put a new set of tires on the car, going from 235/45R18 to 245/45R18. With two tanks of gas on the new tires, I have noticed no difference in mileage. My best mileage has been on a road trip from Shreveport LA to Galveston TX and back (lots of hills in East Texas). Averaged about 33 MPG. Again, Sport Mode and not nursing it. I can't speak to you fuel mileage gauge, mine is accurate.
CRU66
Akirby, "Find a level stretch of highway and set the cruise control to 55 or 60, reset the mpg and let it go for a few miles and report back. If there is a problem it could be anything from a dragging brake to a lazy O2 sensor or even bad gas." I did the cruise control test like you asked. My results were this - I set the cruise on at 65 mph, reset the gauge and ran for 5 miles and my average mpg was all over. It started at 27 and went up to 34. Then back down to 29 and up to 31. Then it went back down and up again. Does this indicate a problem? It was a flat area and no cars in front of me and the car seemed to keep the speed fine (it wasn't slowing or speeding up).
