Lockout collar on manual transmission broke

Recommended Posts

Our 2013 Fusion SE has a 6 speed manual transmission.  The car has 7500 miles on it.  Last week the lockout collar on the shifter got stuck in the 'up' position, causing the lockout mechanism to fail.  We had to be very careful when shifting gears so we wouldn't accidentally put it in Reverse.  The dealership fixed the problem, replacing the entire shift assembly.  I called Ford and asked if this was a common problem.  They assured me it wasn't.  Has anyone else ever experienced this problem?  Also, does anyone know if shifting the car into Reverse instead of 1st gear when parking it for the night could put a strain on the lockout mechanism/collar?  Thanks!
