Carlb101
While the gas mileage of my 2013 2.0 turbo has never ben as good as my 2010 2,5, the complaint is the 5 miles per gallon drop since the temperature dropped below 40 degrees Fahrenheit Are others experiencing this?
akirby
Have you checked your tire pressure? It can drop significantly when temps drop. Mine were 9 lbs low. You're also dealing with winter fuel blends and that also drops mpg.
junehhan
Increased rolling resistance from stiffer tyres and lower air pressure, winter fuel blends, engine running richer for longer after startup, increased drag on internal components from fluids that are more viscous are all some reasons why fuel economy goes down in winter. This is especially noticeable if you do a bunch of shorter trips. When I am doing longer trips, I found my fuel economy took a 1-2 mpg hit last winter
Dukemeister
With winter tires and temps around freezing, my trip computer is showing about 7l/100 (34 mpg) for freeway driving vs about 6l/100 (39 mpg) in the summer, so that is a 5 mpg drop. I have the 1.6 ecoboost.
JGee
I'd love to be getting 7L/100km nevermind 6. I have to really try just to get 9.5L/100km combined city & hwy. Best I ever got was 7.48L/100km & that was 95% Hwy. What grade & type of fuel are you running? Have you calculated your L's/100k manually?
Dukemeister
I was tracking fuel consumption for a while, on Gas Buddy. Attached. The numbers are combined freeway/highway/city driving for each fill. The trip computer best results I posted from the on board computer trip meter (6l/100 and 7l/100) are for freeway driving on 400 series (flat and smooth, low elevation) cruise control over about 200-300 km @108 kmh, me and light luggage on board. My overall average is 8.7l/100 calculated and on the trip meter it shows overall 8.8 so the trip meter seems to be pretty close.
me32
All things posted are correct. Winter blend gas along with low tire pressure kills mpg. Id recommend having tire pressure set at 35psi cold or 37-38psi warm.
junehhan
Also don't forget that running snow tires will also negatively impact fuel economy as minimizing rolling resistance is not as big of a priority in their design.
