scherp69
Hey guys. I have a 2011 Fusion SEL that I bought new in 2012. I'm wondering about my low fuel warning though as it seems to come on when I still have between 1/8 and 1/4 tank of fuel left. I asked the dealer about this and they checked it out saying everything seemed to be working normally. Last night the low fuel came on about half way between 1/8 and 1/4. Does this sound right? All the other vehicles I have owned, the low fuel doesn't come on until near E. Thanks in advance.
BlueOval2010
Mine always comes on at about an 1/8 of a tank.
akirby
It used to come on at 50 miles to empty which can vary quite a bit depending on your avg mpg. On my 2013 it only comes on around 20-30 miles to empty.
ClaytonR
Do you have the MyKey system set-up? I know you can program separate keys to trigger low fuel light at earlier intervals.
jon50iowa
Our 2012 SE the mykey is not set up. Low fuel warning activated about 50 miles to empty(Normally I don't go below a half tank unless it getting a Techron treatment).
Waldo
The 2011 should be coming on at 50 miles to empty regardless of how much fuel is in your tank. If you do a lot of city driving or idling, that means there will still be quite a bit of fuel in the tank.
ClaytonR
My 2012 Sport comes on at 50 miles. Usually around 1/8 of a tank or just above. The DIC computer does a good job estimating it, I've been forced to get down to below 10 miles left, and it matched mile for mile on the odometer, and I ended up putting a full tank in when I filled up.
cccerbeus
For what it is worth, It comes on at "50 miles to empty" but that is bullshit and very early. My spec information says the tank holds 18 gallons (2011 Fusion Sport AWD) but even with the display saying zero miles to empty i've never gotten it to take more than 16.3 gallons, so there was still a gallon and a half of reserve. BTW, this is not a bad thing. Just setting you clocks ahead to stay on time if you have a chronic late person in the house, the safety margin is a good thing. No down side really.
akirby
Ford always keeps about 10% in reserve when DTE shows 0. It protects the fuel pump and keeps some folks from running out if they try to push it.
