junehhan
http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2017-ford-gt-official-photos-and-info-news I don't know how many of you guys saw this, but this is exciting coming from a Ford enthusiast. The exciting thing is that noone knew about this as this was just a major surprise that really spoiled the announcement of the upcoming Acura NSX Super Car. Very few Super Cars in the world have a history as the Ford GT has since the early days of the GT40 race car. Some of you might remember the GT that Ford did in 2005 and sold 4200 at $160,000. I would not be surprised if this car went for $220 - $250k. “Engineered to keep company with exotics” is how Ford modestly refers to its bombshell 2015 Detroit auto show debut, the GT hypercar. The concept’s appearance wasn’t a huge surprise, as we learned months ago that Ford was taking a new GT to Le Mans in 2016, and such a car must be homologated. But as it slinked onto a stage at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena, Ford kept feeding us a host of stats that had our jaws opening wider by the second. It packs more than 600 horsepower. It utilizes full carbon-fiber construction and body panels. It has active aerodynamics. The new GT is poised to not only keep company with other exotics, but perhaps also force them to up their game.
Big Jim
I saw this on the Auto News Video a few minutes ago. I wish they had better photos. This should be very interesting.
BlackBetty
Saw this yesterday too. I love it! That rear end shot looks amazing. I'm really liking all three cars that came out (Raptor and GT350R) They all look awesome!
akirby
It's nice to see what they can do when they take the gloves off and are given the green light by management. Can't wait to see it at LeMans.
Waʊnd Sterling
Awesome - would see these near and around the proving-grounds in Naples. More awesome - Ford Motor took the engine-config just no one wanted in the 1990's Jaguar Supercar and made it be. Le Mans - had not thought that far yet... good eye. Big Jim
I wonder how this will play out with the announcement that Corvette will either move to a mid engine or add a mid engine model to their line. Competition is a good thing. I also wonder how the flat plain crank engine Ford is developing for the Mustang will play out here. Shades of that famous Italian automaker that the GT40 beat at La Mans. Is Ford aiming at the throat?
BlackBetty
I think Ford wants to repeat history at LeMans. I hope they do too! It's about time Ford got racing again, if love to see them in F1 too but that's a long shot.
akirby
F1 is far too expensive and far too political and the cars aren't stock based. Far more bang for the buck in IMSA and LeMans. True sports car racing.
BlackBetty
F1 is far too expensive and far too political and the cars aren't stock based. Far more bang for the buck in IMSA and LeMans. True sports car racing. Yeah I couldn't agree more. As much as I'd like to see them in F1 i know it doesn't make sense in many ways.
junehhan
http://blog.caranddriver.com/death-dealing-diesel-no-its-the-2017-ford-gt-at-idle-w-video/ Looks like someone caught a video of the new GT idling and revving. Needless to say it sounds so sweet that I will not miss it not having a V8. But the niggling question hangs in the minds of many—what does FoMoCo’s new supercar sound like? It’s a longstanding jab at the Viper that the V-10 snake sounds like a United Parcel Service vehicle at idle. Scratch that. The GT is the new king of the demonic delivery trucks. The 3.5-liter V-6 garble-gargles through its high-mounted tailpipes, while the twin turbos send their barbaric whirring hiss echoing through the taillight tubes. If Steven Spielberg’s Duel were remade by Michael Bay, it’s the noise the film’s menacing Peterbilt would make at rest. Watch the clip below to see what we mean.
BlackBetty
I can't wait to hear it at WOT! I bet it's a fire-breathing beast!
akirby
Chip Ganassi raced it last year in a Daytona Prototype in IMSA races. I'm sure there is some video out there.
