Favorite driving roads?

Premium is pretty easy to get up here, lots of exotics are in and around calgary thanks to our oil and Banff is pretty heavy with tourism.

The only crappy part is that our 'premium' is only 91 oct.

But even the smaller towns and villages there's usually a Shell or Petro-Canada which generally has good quality fuel (and premium).

Those are the roads I want to hit up this summer too! I was able to go on some pretty fun scenic drives coming home from Banff this November. We had Wedding up there which was really nice too but damn I had fun coming back down. We were pushed for time on the way up so we had to stick to the main highways.

I just remember driving along the Al-Can and having a horrible trouble trying to find premium. I had my Ecoboost Lincoln at the time and the last town I was able to get premium fuel was Dawson's Creek, BC. There is another small town along the way that I am sure had premium, but I didn't need gas. After that, I was unable to find premium until I reached Whitehorse, YT. The most expensive fillup ever was in Muncho Lake, BC where 87 octane petrol was $8.50 USD a gallon. The guy kept trying to tell me that it is really 89 octane and I had to inform him that the altitude might be why it is the equivalent of 89 octane.

Here are some more pics of glaciers from within Kenai Fjords National Park in Seward, AK. I also made this day trip on my day off. Seward was by far one of my favorite towns to visit although things are expensive there. They have one of the last pubs in the state that still allow smoking inside. They also had some really good food. I was not able to take very many pictures as I was getting eaten up by giant mosquitos and thus gave up trying to hike to the glacier. Once you park, it is supposed to be an east 1 mile hike to Exit Glacier

Sweet! Yeah it gets fairly remote north of Dawson's creek. At least until you hit Whitehorse. The motor trend video was a lot further south and basically just off the main roads where are all fairly close.

It's kind of nice that I can find some pretty sweet roads that are pretty close to home. I just need to find the time to get out there.

Living in Ohio, there really aren't very many good driving roads nearby. Also because Ohio lies right on the East West and North South transportation lanes, we get an insane amount of traffic going through our state. We have OH State Rt 26 that goes from just south of Cambridge down to Marietta(where Honduh builds Accords) which has been rated one of C&D's top ten driving roads in the country, but that is a long drive from me. I have been on it a few times, and congestion on that rural road also gets insane during the summer as every hot rod sports car club and biker club are out driving it. I have seen some road rage caused by the numerous slow moving RV's that also clog it up in the summer. Even worse, I hear that it has fallen into a sad state of disrepair making it dangerous at times for bikers.

That sucks man, I hate it when an awesome road is ruined by stupid/ignorant drivers.

I've been fairly lucky I'm usually on some pretty fun roads all summer since I do a lot of hiking, biking etc and with my schedual I get a good amount of weekdays off when the roads are slow. It's pretty great being able to bomb up some twisty mountain road with amazing views, then go for an awesome ride or hike and come back down.

I'll usually zip up and down a few more roads in the area before we head out again.. Still seems like I don't do it often enough.

Here are a couple of interesting pictures I dug up. This is during the spring break up in Alaska. This is off of an old wooden bridge along the old Seward Highway in Anchor Point which is about 10 miles north of Homer. This is one of the most perfect examples of how micro climates affect parts of Alaska as Homer might be 5 degrees and Anchor Point while just 10 miles away, will be -15 or colder.

That looks awesome! I love that about the mountains, the weather is always changing. Those old wooden bridges are super sweet too! Very nice pics!

Here's a few pics of our road trip up the Croatian coast. Good mix of their costal roads and super highway. I just wish we had a better sounding car to bomb through the tunnels!

These were mostly around Dubrovnik, so crazy busy with tourists so not ideal for a drive. Still some pretty amazing sights.

The main highway.. Really cool bridges an tunnels. The speed limit was 140km/h (about 80mph I think). Most people would easily go 100+mph, cops didn't seem to mind unless your blocking traffic.

I would honestly love to drive in Croatia one day as I hear that the scenery is gorgeous. Of course there are a lot of places I would like to drive, but that probably will not happen as I do not travel much outside the US and Can. There is a lot I would like to do, but it just boils down to time or money. I always have one, but never both at the same time AEB the fact that I have not been able to take a true vacation since 2008.

Yeah it really is amazing over there, there's so much to see in such a small place. My parents are from there but they met in Canada and of course I was born here. Thats why I was so lucky to get to go there. I went in 1998 and again in I believe 2008 or so. I got to go to England as well in 2013 which is also pretty fun as far as sights and roads too.

I guess I'm biased but I gotta say Croatia is one of the nicest and most beautiful places I've seen

I've been to England and France before, but both of those countries felt suffocating to me. On top of that, I still cannot get used to Brits driving on the wrong side of the road and driving from the wrong side of the car. Traffic is also a nightmare around London. My experience with France is tainted by the fact that I spent most of my time in Paris which is literally a dump. It is crowded, filthy, and you had to watch where you were walking all the time because the sidewalks were literally littered with dog shit that those lazy pet owners wouldn't pick up. Parisians are also jerks and in fact the Arabs and Persians who ran the local digs were far nicer and friendlier.

On the other hand, I have found that rural Canadians are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I've been to cities such as Toronto, Quebec city, Edmonton, Grand Prairie, and Saskatoon and yet it felt like some big city to me. Once I was out and about in the rural parts, it was a different story.

Why thank you!

I know what you mean about driving in England, it's crazy busy and London is nuts. We ended up driving through London on our way back into town and it was crazy busy. When we went to visit the city though we stuck with trains and the tube. The public transportation was so good you really don't need to drive around. The first day driving was a bit of a headache but you get used to it fairly quickly. It was nice when we got off the main roads when we were further north and south of London. Driving along the southern coast was really nice too. I'll see if I can dig up some pictures of the trip.

I have heard about that France and Paris, really makes it tough to enjoy yourself when there is so much annoyance and headache.

I equate Parisians to New Yorkers or Washington DC residents as they appear to have similar attitudes. At least I didn't have to worry about stepping in dog shit everywhere I went while walking around in DC or NYC. That right there is probably my biggest source of aversion to France as the sidewalks were so disgusting. The public transportation was also nowhere near as good or hygienic as London. It just felt so dirty. I can handle rude merchants and rude people, but seeing dog shit everywhere I went put me over the edge. While my driveway will likely always have a Ford, I have been tempted to save enough money to do a European delivery of an import the next time around. It would be nice to take delivery of a brand new European car and go on a vacation with it. The problem is that European cars have gotten mostly unaffordable(I don't like buying strippers), and I am afraid of owning a European car once the warranty expires. I have owned Land Rovers before and those were a disaster even during the warranty.

One of my favorites -the Sea To Sky Highway from North Vancouver to Whistler. It's a 150 km scenic and engaging drive up and down mountainous twisties. It really is one of the best drives in the WORLD. Stopped by squamish and took the gondola up to the summit. Here's a shot from that perspective. You'll see a part of the snaking sea to sky on the left of the equally reMarkable Howe Sound.
