tjack Posted May 7, 2008 Share Posted May 7, 2008 I was backing my 2008 Mercury Milan (120 miles on it) into the garage and got out to see how far I was from the wall. I smelled a rotten egg odor. It wasen't intense but I could smell it. I assume it's from the exhaust which are dual. Is this normal or do I have a problem? No this isn't my first new car. I've had many new Sables. I don't normally back into the garage but I did this time. I may have smelled it before with my other cars but don't remember. t-bonedawg Posted May 7, 2008 Share Posted May 7, 2008 It is just the carbon build up inside your engine burning up. Usally you will get this smell when you baby the car for a long time. You can go to your local auto parts store and buy a $10 can of seafoam or just drive your car harder for a while (reving it past 3000rpm). It is just the sulfur compounds from the fuel and catalytic converter by-products (CO2, water etc.). Sometimes you will smell it more than others. Again, it is normal. Your car only has 120 miles on it. Do not run any fuel system additives/cleaners like Seafoam or any others through your system. It does not need them.
