vagh_nagas
I have a ford fusion I purchased about 2 years ago. On the back of the car it shows it is a SEL, but when I look up the car on things like carfax (or any other site) it shows I have an SE no L. Any guesses as to why I bought an SEL labeled SE on paper?
drolds1
What other sites besides CARFAX? They've been known to make mistakes. But why speculate? Go to this website: http://services.ford...ticker.pdf?vin= and enter your VIN after the '=.' This will give you a facsimile of your original window sticker showing what model you have everything that it came from the factory with. The only other possibility I can think of is that the car was in a rear-end collision and the body shop installed the wrong emblem when it was repaired, but that's a stretch. There have been rare mislabeling errors at he factory also. Let us know the results of the sticker search.
vagh_nagas
http://goo.gl/e6xPgg That is my window sticker, it shows SE not SEL. Maybe there was a factry mixup? The car has been in no accidents (not even a , and when I registered for my state it shows up as SE as well. Maybe I am the insaine person, but I just find all of that strange. Any Thoughts? Don't get me wrong I love my car for everything it is, I bought it for the V6 engine because i live in the city that has many uphill onramps that you need to get going, and I will keep this car until i cannot afford the repairs or something of that nature.
akirby
It was either replaced by a body shop with the wrong one or it left the factory that way. It happens. Don't worry about it.
andyross
If the bar above the license plate is chrome, it's an SEL, Sport, or Hybrid. If it's body color, it's S or SE.
mozz
Or the car lot you bought it from ripped you off, on purpose.
vagh_nagas
Or the car lot you bought it from ripped you off, on purpose. That was my original thought, but for the price I paid there was no way i could have been. Has this thing every happened to anybody else on here? it just seems odd to mix up that much. Also here is a link to a picture of the back of my car. http://i.imgur.com/Y2ImFI5.jpg Let me know what you guys think.
propwash
I suppose it could have been mislabeled at the factory. I had a buddy who bought a Dodge, and it came from the factory with a Plymouth steering wheel.
Waldo
It doesn't matter what the badge on the back of the car says, if the 5th, 6th and 7th digits of the VIN are P0H, it's an SE. BTW did you know your car was originally sold to Enterprise Rent-a-car? Could have been some renter that swiped the badge one day and Enterprise just put back on whatever they had. akirby
It's possible the trunk was damanged and replaced with a SEL.

Is it possible it was built incorrectly, caught and sold to Enterprise at a discount? Like a scratch and dent sale?

I did not know it was sold to enterprise to begin with. I knew it was a rental but not who. Where did you find that information? (The more detailed stuff) Just curious. Also I suppose it's possible it was in a small incident but I does not look like it. Normally there is a small difference between color in the two parts. ( no two cars fade the same). Thoughts? I am learning a lot trust me.

Whether it was repaired or replaced, your car has the wrong trunk trim for a 2012 SE. Aside from the SEL badge, as pointed out above, the SE came with body color trim above the license plate and yours is chrome. Look around the inside of your trunk lid for a label similar to the one here. The original factory lid will have this label with the car's VIN printed on it. If it's not there then it's likely that the lid was replaced.

You are right, the vin is VERY different, it is from a 2011 SEL, but I cannot find any information on it as to why it is on my car??? the car says it is still in use? any guesses, also i suppose it does not matter so here is the vin on my trunk 3fahp0jg7br261984 Also can anybody tell me why mine has a replaced trunk? was it in any kind of wreck? mozz
That vin is from a sel. http://services.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=3fahp0jg7br261984 That doesn't match the one on your windshield?
vagh_nagas
Not at all. In fact I have a 2012 not a 2011
Waldo
Enterprise owns hundreds of Fusions of the same color. Chances are the trunk on yours got damaged at some point and they had another car sitting around with the same color trunk but maybe some other problem like a broken windshield so they just switched it to keep one car on the road and available to rent out. vagh_nagas
That was. Now I'm a little aggravated with it. But I'll be fine. Thanks for your help everybody. Great detective skills and if I have any more questions I'll be sure to post them.
andyross
You could carefully peel off the 'L'. Edited February 6, 2015 by andyross
vagh_nagas
You could carefully peel off the 'L'. Nah, I will just pretend that I just have a "strip down" version of an SEL.... SHHHH don't tell anyone.
