Mercrusin
Hello I have a 2007 Mercury milan base, 2.3L with around 130,000 miles. I have had a horrible noise that is similar to a squeak or creak every time I ......A) turn the wheel or when I hit bumps or pretty much drive not in a smooth straight road. The noise seems to be dramatically worse when the weather is cold ( I live in ohio) and you can always hear it very prominent outside the car and inside. I had the front struts and top rubber boots replaced last year and that seemed to help temporarily but It is another year and the sound is just as bad. The mechanic said nothing else seemed wrong at the time and the stock struts were not even bad. I had read on this forum at one point or another about something needing to be aligned with some holes in the suspension but I'm not sure. Has anyone else had this problem or any help with this. It's to the point I don't enjoy the car because people stop and stare at it when I drive it, it's kind of embarrassing! Thanks for any help or input
Sable1268
I bought a brand new 2007 fusion and experience the same problem especially in cold weather. My brother has a 2014 brand new car and also has the same issue.
GCS2012
It's going to be one of the lower control arms/ball joints. Our 2009 had this issue shortly after we purchased it; it's horribly annoying. I can't speak for others, but the 2006-2009 uses four lower ball joints for some reason.
Bogy
I'm going to agree with GCS2012. I had this for a couple of years. I didn't always have it, but there would be times, especially when it was cold, and especially when I had been driving on the highway and then came to a stop on the offramp and it would be horrible. Several times I got out of the car to see if something was dragging. or had come loose. The creaking inside the car was annoying. I originally thought it was something with the struts, but fortunately I never spent the money on that. Finally had the ball joints replaced and that took care of the problem.
