Frustrated with car stalling

Hello,

I have a 13 Fusion Titanium and recently had two stalling issues. The car stalled while the remote start was running and it also stalled while in reverse recently. No check engine light is on. I live in New Jersey and we recently had a couple weeks of extreme temps and a lot of snow. Could this be a reason for the stalling? Is it worth bringing it in to get checked out?

Here is how my 2013 stalls. 1.6 ecoboost.

I typically reverse out from the garage and put the car outside to warm up in park. It stalls. Dealer replaced tcbp cact sensor, it didn't fix it. Dealer has no idea how to fix. The sensor replace idea was ford tech support idea from detroit.

Happens only on start up, when engine is cold. Otherwise runs good and restart tight away after it stalls. No engine light....Here is a video

I really like the car. Want to get this fixed. Jewllri or anyone else ...any ideas

Almost stalled in reverse one time as well, as i was backing out of driveway....

This morning on cold start i left it in park without putting in reverse and then park and it did not stall.....this is weird...seems like the combination of park, reverse, park makes it stall....

You are right, i think i will give to dealer to data log....

What a weird problem on a new car...it never has any issue while driving or once i restart from stalling....

Thanks for response

My stalling has occurred during the following scenerios:

While in reverse- the car jerked a little bit and then went into run mode. It had stalled

Most recently it was while driving up a slight hill to pull out of my drive way and once I was in the street, the car stalled.

I still haven't had the chance to get my car looked at. Unfortunately the dealer I bring my car to does not offer a courtesy vehicle, so I need to wait until I do not need my car for a couple days. Its very inconvenient.

How far away is the next dealership? May be worth switching to one that's further away if they're more accommodating.

Hey guys,

SO once again my car stalled, this time while driving down the hill. I will be going to my dealer asap. They told me to come in next time it happens. LAst time they did hook a data device to my car and one of them drove it home for the night and drove it back the next morning. Of course, no issues were found. Here is a question, if this problem does not get fixed, can this car be a lemon? I do not want to be paying for a titanium if it isn't going to perform as expected. I also notice that my gas mileage is TERRIBLE. I average about 24 mpg only getting about 325 miles per tank of gas. I used to get close to 400 with my old fusions. I am very frustrated.

Hi. I am really hoping that someone here might have dealt with something like this and/or be able to give me some

advice please.

I have a 2013 Fusion Titanium with 28k miles. It has developed a
big problem within the last couple of weeks.

First thing I noticed was some uneveness at times when accelerating, especially at lower speeds. I know that is not a correct term, but the best one I can come up with. Basically it felt like it was not smooth. Like it would get and not gas gas.

One day I picked up my daughter from school and drove about 20 minutes to a store. I came out less than an hour later. When I started my car it shuddered and died. I was able to start it back up and drove home with no additional problem.

The next day I picked my daughter up from school (about 15 minute drive) and came home. When we left about 20 minutes later my car died while driving out of the subdivision. It was like I had thrown my car in neutral. I was still giving it gas but it was going nowhere and then it died. I was able to start it and drove to my destination but did not stop my car.

The next day I picked my daughter up from school and went to the grocery store. I am not sure how long I was in there but less than an hour. When i started it to leave it did its shuddering thing and died. I was able to start it but it happened 2 more times before I was able to drive it home.

When I try and start it after it has died it takes a bit.

Sometimes it reminds me of an old car that I had where, at stop signs, I had to keep one foot on the gas and one on the break to keep it running.

I took it to the dealer Monday and was advised that they could find nothing and were unable to duplicate the problem. The service advisor suggested I try and recreate it and keep track of when it happens.

Well, it did not take my long to recreate it. I picked the car up tonight and drove straight to dinner, which was about a 15 minute drive. When I got in the car to leave almost an hour later it shuddered and died. I was able to get it started and drove home without problems.

I decided to keep track after that and it is as follows:

4:55 picked car up from dealer - started fine - drove to dinner

6:00 started car, turned on heat and it shuddered and died. got it started.
called dealer but they were closed.

home at 6:30. stopped car and restarted with no problem

7:15 started fine but backed it out my driveway a tiny bit and when driving back into drivway it started it shaking and died. got it started, was hard to start, and got back in the driveway

7:30 started fine backed out and back into driveway with no problems

but i "thought' i could smell gas when I got out of the car.

So the dealer is saying they can't find anything. But it is definitely something and it is stressing me out.

The info they sent home says "scan with IDS. Only code listed was a historical code P0087

Any ideas? Anyone experience this? I would love to have something to go back to the dealer with. I need my car to be dependable.

Also, I was at a drive thru window one morning and heard a loud "whirring" or "ticking" noise and I turned my car off to see if it was my car or the car behind me. Unfortunately it was my car. The next day i took a short video of it and provided it to the dealer. Their response was that it is normal fuel injector sound. Is this right?

I went from loving my car to wanting to get rid of it. I really need to be able to depend on my car and the starting and stalling issue has me really stressed. The dealer thinks I am crazy but I have had multiple people in the car with me at times when it has done this.

I really appreciate any input anyone can possibly give me on this.

Thanks!

** went by dealer this morning to tell them what happened after I picked it up last night. He said that, even if it happened to him, he would be unable to fix it without a code? I asked him about the historical code P0087, which certainly seems like it "could" be the problem. He said the code was from some unknown time prior and without it showing the code now it doesn't help. That all he could do now would be to "start throwing new parts in"

At this point, I am very frustrated with the dealer and the car.

I just went and tried the car since it has been almost an hour since I parked it. Started fine. Backed 1/2 way out of the driveway. While pulling back in it died. So

frustrated with the car and the dealer

I would truly appreciate any feedback. thanks!

Sounds like it's always happening just after you start the car. Only thing I can think of is something related to fuel pressure. It could be the high pressure pump is not kicking on after start-up somehow. I'd ask the dealer to start checking the fuel pressure.

See if you can leave it at the dealer overnight and have them drive it in the morning when it is cold. If they drive it a few minutes there's a chance that it will experience those same symptoms. If the service tech is driving and it happens to him, he should be able to zero in on your problem. Good luck.

Welcome to the site, bettyboop; I'm Crystal, the Ford Service rep here. I want to escalate this to your regional customer service manager (CSM) so they can assist. To get things moving, send me a private message (PM) with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll make sure this gets into the hands of your CSM.

The one time of the day that I have never experienced it is the very first time that I start it each morning. There are times now that it starts fine but as soon as I start driving it does "it's thing" which feels to me

like running out of gas. It bucks and sputters and dies. And then I have to get it started again. This dying can be a safety hazard depending upon where I am when it stops. I did notice, however, that my gas mileage has gone down the drain. Average MPG yesterday was 14.8.

Can you update on what was found to be the issue? I am having the exact same issue with my 2013 Fusion Titanium. Stalled or lost power 4 times in 3 weeks. Took to dealer and they found nothing. Said track the issue, bring it back when happens again. 2 days later, my wife drove it all day, it was okay. Went and picked my son up from school, came home and 20 mins later went back out to take him to doctor. They only made it halfway down the street and it stopped. My wife said she was pressing on the gas and nothing (Limp mode?). She was able to pull over and turned it off and then it was hard to start. Finally started and was fine. Took it to dealer next day, they had it all day today, I called, they said only a historical code and nothing else, they have no idea. They still have the car as they agreed it is dangerous too drive, but was not sure they would have time to look at it tomorrow (sat) as they usually just change oil, even though the main tech they want to look at it will be working. On Monday when I picked it up, they said they searched for similar issues reported and found none. But on the internet I found all kinds os similar complaints, most turning out to be the throttle body.

Wondering what your issue was found to be, so I can share that with my dealer who is struggling to fix it.

Very frustrating. Car has only around 24K miles,

Long story short, the dealer ended up replacing many things. The fuel rail sensor, #4 injector, throttle body and even the header. I can get a complete list of everything

replaced if you like. The last time they had it for an entire month. When I got it back, it would literally drive itself on flat roads/parking lots. The warranty was about to expire. We went in to purchase an extended warranty and ended up walking out with a new car. We could not justify purchasing an extended warranty on a car that never worked properly. They had 2 fusions on the lot, both were

hybrid. We ended up getting one and I really like it. I miss my titanium and it's great stereo. But this 2015 hybrid drives really well and I am loving the gas mileage.

I can send you the name of my dealer and the contact person, who is really great by the way. I don't know if dealer service departments communicate with each other? If they do, maybe

they can give you a better idea of what all they did with mine.

I am sorry that you are going through this and hope they can get a permanent fix for it.

Hi km9376,

Do you have any updates from your dealer over the weekend? I want to check out some options.

Hi Meagan,

The dealer did not look at it all weekend, but then called today to say that they were able to use a different tool (must have been different than the first

3 times they tried) and now have been able to read an error code (they did not tell me what it was). They said it identified the issue to be the

Fuel Pressure Sensor. They replaced it and I picked the car up this evening. Time will tell if that was the cause. I will repost again to provide an

update in a week or so, unless the issue comes back sooner, and then I will post again right away.

Thanks,

Keith.

Thanks! I'm happy to hear it was taken care of. Please let me know if any symptoms return.
