Frustrated with car stalling

I have a 2013 Fusion Ecoboost, the same thing happens to me, when I start it in the morning, it's fine, but if I let it sit for about15 minutes, then stalls on restarts. Been doing it quite a bit, took it to the dealer, they also tried to duplicate it, I told them that it sits for about 15 minutes, they only let it sit for 5. They also told me that no codes are coming up. Changed to a tank of premium gas, thinking it may be the gas. Stalled twice on me tonight. I know your frustration with it because I'm dealing with it too. Someone told me to reset the ECU, I haven't done that yet, but if anyone has, please let me know if that works. The past few months ( and the dealer I am dealing with ) have been rough dealing with recall stuff. I'm also thinking about getting rid of this car.

This is my first post to the forum, after dealing with nothing but problems since i purchased my fusion and now having stalling problems I felt compelled to vent my frustrations with ford. here is my story

10/30/14

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Jason XXXXXXXX I have been loyal Crowley customer for years, I have purchased multiple vehicles and my experiences have always been pleasant.

Until I purchased the 2013 Certified Ford fusion from the Ford dealership this month, It has been a disaster from the start and I am now at my breaking point. This letter is notifying Crowley of what needs to be done before I peruse any legal options.

On 10/3/14 I gave Vincent Brike the okay to start the process of getting the vehicle ready for delivery on Saturday 10/4/14 I told him the items that needed to be taken care of prior to me taking ownership of the car, these items were:

Any open Recalls, Clean the interior (noticed black hand prints on ceiling) oil change, full tank of gas and an alignment because the car pulled to the right. All this was not a problem at all for him so we made an appointment for 2 pm on Saturday.

I emailed him Saturday morning and his response at 10:36 am was “car is in service and clean now” I was at the dealership at 1:30 pm upon arrival was told by David the car is not ready do to a part they cant get until Tuesday. I was very upset do to the multiple conversations telling me the car was going to be 100%. After calming down I signed all the paperwork and was then given a older fusion to drive until mine was ready. On Tuesday they called and said maybe Wednesday. Wednesday didn’t happen either, then Thursday Jamie called and said the car is ready that they pulled a part out of another vehicle to make mine complete. I arrived 10/9/14 again at the dealership excited to be done with the mess only to find car with no plates on it, empty gas tank and the interior completely untouched. I handed the keys directly back to David and said its not ready. I am not one to complain I don’t haggle any pricing I just come and buy a car and want to leave but this was above and beyond upsetting at this point. Jamie and David had the car brought back in and was “cleaned” I said okay and left for the night. I drove the car on Friday 10/10/14 to Stratford and noticed Significant shaking from the vehicle, very loud sound from rear breaks as well as quite a few rattles from the interior something that should not happen to a vehicle with 17k on it. I notified David at 7:25 am and said to please call me asap. David Emailed me back and said to bring it back which meant I needed to take a half day from work again to take care of vehicle issues. I then gave the vehicle back to service and they had it for 2 hours. They said the rear rotors were so warped and what was making the sound and could contribute to shaking, they also balanced the wheels again road tested and said was all good. I took the vehicle again and went home still noticed a shake but I was only on back roads and not highway so didn’t think about it again until Monday 10/13/14 when I drove to New York and the car was just as bad with exception of the Braking noise that was gone. On 10/13/14 I contacted David again did not receive a return message or call on 10/14/14 I forwarded to Jamie which I received a phone call and was told to bring it back again this was now my 3rd day missing work time. Met with Tim in service they rotated the tires again to see if the problem moves around , I took the car for a drive and was still bad. I told them it hasn’t changed, at that point I told them I also had issues with only being able to fill the gas tank to 7/8 and then I would drive 2 mile and it would be at ¾ of a tank. They told me at that point they could get me in about 2 weeks from then. I said it was unacceptable and this needed to be taken care of . They made an appointment on Friday 10/17/14 with Jay the technician they wanted to look at it. Friday afternoon Tim called and said Its all set! Found a bent wheel (that he has a video of) the rim was so bent it wobbled on the lift but he sent it to be repaired and would be ready on Saturday. He also ordered a new fuel tank that I would have to come back for again. The rattles were not addressed because they thought It was a part of the bent wheel shake causing it.

I took possession of the car on Saturday again and took it right on the highway, I did notice the shake was not as violent as it was but still very noticeable. I let tim know and he said they would address it again when the fuel tank comes in.

10/27/14 Dropped of the car again for the shake, fuel tank and rattles

Tim called at 330 on 10/29/14 and said it was all set again fuel tank done, tires rebalanced again and that the rattles were “a characteristic of the cars trim”

I dove the car today to Pittsfield Massachusetts and to my surprise Shakes and rattles just like before. So my question is how does a “certified” vehicle come through with this many issues. Now I will be making a payment on a vehicle that I have not had a chance to enjoy yet. I traded in a 2007 Chevy Impala that drove 100 times better then this car has. I have missed 3 days of work that I have not received pay for. And don’t know what the future of this car holds for me.

This was my last letter to the dealer after no response I wrote a letter to ford and opened a case, I told them I would no longer go to this dealer. I was sent to a dealer 1 hr away from my home, They spent some time with the shaking issues they said they could feel it but don't know what it is and my options are to deal with it or trade it in? Really ! At this point there was a door latch recall that they said they needed to order parts for. Since then my fuel door latch has broke (they ordered parts) The car still shakes which I think is a result from previous owner hitting something very hard and not only damaged that rim but suspension parts as well. And now tonight my car has stalled 4 times and have had to get to the side of the road and re-start I truly don't know what to do with this CERTIFIED POS this was my first ford and they can't get it straight proboly my last.

Any thoughts on who to turn to ?

HI LeeAnn,

Our dealer after multiple attempts finally found the issue to be the Fuel Pressure SEnsor. They changed that part and it has been weeks with no

stalling or power loss. Hopefully they can look at it and maybe that is the same cause of your issue.

Keith.

I had similiar stalling issues with my 2013 Fusion Titanium. Multiple stalling and power loss (limp mode). After multiple trips to the dealer, the issue was finally found to be the Fuel Pressor Sensor.

If that has not been looked at, ask you dealer to check or change it.

When was your most recent dealer visit? Please let me know, along with your mileage.

Update! Found a bad low pressure fuel sensor? On the stalling and have said that I still have a bent wheel. Which means the original dealer never really fixed it(big surprise). Ford also said they are not responsible for fixing the wheel and I would have to take it up with the original selling dealer. Does that sound correct or just passing the buck ?

Thanks for the post. I just dropped off my 2013 fusions to the dealer this morning. Its having the exact same trouble. Starts fine in the morning the stalls on the restart after setting.

Give me a better Idea of what might be the issue.

I've also had the same issue. My car has died at least 6 times since December 18th. It isn't dying while driving 55, it dies when you comes to a stop and try to take off again. I've taken it to Ford Dealer twice - they cannot find anything wrong. Then it died on the other side of town, took to mechanic he said he scanned the car and it was a coolant valve needing to be replaced, and there is a software update. He replaced the coolant valve, however, 2 days later the car dies again. Contacted local Ford Dealership - they tell me there isn't a software update. Contacted Customer Service at Ford twice, they tell me no update, took to a different mechanic, he also told me the software needs to be updated. I googled all the issues and saw where Ford had problems with Throttle Body, so I contacted Ford Customer Service, and Kevin at Ford Customer Service told me that there were no issues with throttle body's, that if what I was reading wasn't on Ford.Com it wasn't true. He suggested I take to another Ford Dealer, pay for them to scan the car, and maybe they can find something wrong.

I am taking car to first mechanic on Monday to update software programming that they found, hoping that solves the problems. I have a feeling, after reading what I have read online, that the software update might not be my only problem with this car.

This is exactly where Meagan (FordService) can help out.

Are these "other mechanics" knowledgeable about Fusions or do they have access to Alldata or Identifix? If not, how do they know there's a software update? IDK what coolant valve could cause a stalling issue.

BTW, the known throttle body issue did not affect any cars after 2012.

As akirby states, PM Ford Service above.

I have the same car with this same issue but it doesn't sound like as terrible as everyone else. I think since I've owned the car for about 2 years it has done the stalling about 7-8 times. Most recently it happened a couple of weeks ago. In the past it was either in the morning leaving for work it would stall leaving my drive way, or it happened after I topped my gas off. I brought this up to my dealership when I first got the car and they said if it happens again let them know. Well it happens but not frequently. I'm afraid that it's going to get worse now reading all of this and my warranty is up.

Also does anyone else have issues with gas pumps keeping the gas fill going until full. That happens once in a while and it's a nuisance to be able fill the tank since it takes 10x longer.

My 2013 titanium 2.0 is doing the same thing. When it stalled for the 5th time this week I didn't think it would restart and the engine light came on. I just dropped it at Ford (thank goodness for extended warranties because my Ford warranty expired December 24th). Will see what they say and post the results later

My 2013 starting doing this stalling thing about 2 months ago. Seems to be getting a bit worse. I plan on just buying a new fuel pressure sensor and that sounds like the most likely cause and its not that expensive of a part. I have already ruled out fuel issues. Along with the stalling, I have also noticed about a 10% drop in fuel economy under the same driving conditions. Can someone please post a diagram of where the sensor is located and/or the replacement instructions?

Thanks

Hi, I have noticed similar issues with my 2013 Fusion. I currently have just over 37,000 miles on my car. When I had just over 35k miles, my car started shaking at times when I accelerated after starting up. I thought that at the time it was a problem with the gas because it didn't happen for a few weeks. Then, a few weeks later it happened again after starting up my car. I tried driving but nothing happened and then it shook a bit and stalled. It has now stalled 4 times since then. It sounds like it is the Fuel Pressure Sensor from what I have read. I am very frustrated because the problem started before my warranty expired. I haven't called Ford yet but I anticipate them giving me a hard time if I complain. I was considering trading in my second car for a Ford Edge because I liked my Fusion so much but am now having strong second thoughts since this issue has occurred.

Update to my issue. My car was able to show historical information about the error codes. There was a problem with the fuel pressure. The dealership with the extended warranty and $100 deductible replaced the fuel pressure sensor and got the pressure to the right amount and it hasn't happened since.

I joined this forum in search of this issue. Glad a few posted up what fixed there issue.

My 2013 se ecoboost with 50k miles started this stalling issue when I was 1300 miles from home this past weekend on vacation with the family. It first stalled on me about 3 times consecutively after eating dinner. Tried duplicating the problem successfully 3 more times in the hotel parking lot. Basicall I let the car sit for about 30 minutes and started it back up. Everytime after the problem surfaced it would stall one time and run fine after that.

Searched for issues and came across this thread. I ordered the parts to fix it this morning now that I'm back at home. I ordered 2 sensors since one in particular wasn't mentioned. Cost was about 60 shipped. I'm cheap and don't have extended warranty and rather not let the dealer touch the car if I don't have to. I'll put the parts in myself when they come in.

Thanks for sharing yalls info.

My 2013 Titanium 2.0 Ecoboost just started stalling last week. Every stall was with a warm engine (drove, parked, gym, shopped etc.). Either in reverse out of parking spot or forward out of driveway car stalls with acceleration from initial movement. At dealer now. No codes!!! Under warranty as least. I see a mention of "fuel process sensor"replace, any other thoughts? Thanks for any help. Paul
