Eagl3YE
So I've decided to install my old subs/amp that I used in my 2001 Ford escort zx2 into my new 2012 ford fusion SEL. I want to do so using the existing stock radio. My younger brother gave me a box with 2 10" Sony Xplods 1100 watt and a crappy alpine amp. But who am I to complain about free stuff!?! That's all I know about the subs, the screws are stripped hardcore. So, it wouldn't be easy to look at the backs... The amp stopped working for god know why, so I purchased a BOSS Phantom 2000 watt amp. Ph2.1000. Here's a link to one that's similar to mine: http://www.amazon.com/BOSS-Audio-PH2-1000-2000-watts-Amplifier/dp/B0032FOKT2 (2) 10" Sony Xplod 1100w(1) BOSS Phantom PH2.1000 2000w(S/N: 18878163)(1) 2 10" speaker BoxMy Fusion is from what I counted a 10 speaker sony sound system with a basic unit (non-nav screen). They said it was an 8 speaker from the Nissan dealership, but like I said, I counted 10.My brother installed the old system in my old car with an aftermarket radio and a random wiring harness. He hooked his up and helped a few of his friends so I just left it up to him. It didn't turn out great haha. It sounded good but we had to install a toggle switch and things such as my rear defrost stopped working so I knew something wasn't right. It slowly drained the battery, but it was just my highschool car so to me it didn't matter. SO, now i'm asking for guidance from you guys.I want to install myself, I want to do it clean and easy. It's what I think a rather small system and that's all I want. No competition system for me!I appreciate any sort of information!! Thank You!
akirby
You should already have subs in the rear - just use those as input to the amps (use a line level converter if the amps don't have speaker level inputs). Then run separate power wires.
Eagl3YE
I talked to an installer at best buy and he said all that I would have to do is install an Axxess AX-ADCT2. I found one for about half the price they were selling it on Amazon. Is this all that I would have to do really?? How would I install it? Just hook it up to two of my rear speakers? http://www.amazon.com/AXXESS-AX-ADCT2-Level-Control-DIFFERENTIAL/dp/B00FMSBDRY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1425932749&sr=8-2&keywords=AX-ADCT2
akirby
No - you hook that up between the rear sub speaker wires and your new amp. It's a line level converter. Only required if your amp doesn't have speaker level inputs.
Vader14
Is it to late to get your money back on the amp? It does around 200 watts total. I would get a good 500 off amazon, depending on your coils will say which one. On a budget I'll go with the Alpine MRP if you need 2ohm. If you need 1ohn there are a few good ones.

It says 1000 watts at 2 ohms.
Vader14
There is absolutely no standard when it comes to car audio. They can put whatever they want. It's $80, 1000 at 2 amps are $250-300 minimum. Your subs are also 1100 max, max is a made up number. They should be 250 rms.
Vader14
We use to be able to guess real power by the onboard fusing. 10 amps per 100 watts. You have to take in account efficiency but it's a rough idea. These shady brands figured out people started understanding this so they started over sizing fuses or adding a fake fuse that went to nothing. Even CEA has become a joke.
Vader14
Start here for a path to enlightenment. This is a bit better amp. http://youtu.be/Nseq_y7MmzE. And that was over 16v. Knock at least 150 watts off on 14v
akirby
Peak vs. RMS. Got it. I thought they were advertising RMS.
Vader14
Don't matter if they are rated RMS or MAX. They can still lie.
Eagl3YE
I bought the Amp like 3 years ago for roughly $100. It was cheep especially for a "2000W" so I didn't care. Reading your guy's posts made me understand that I don't know a whole lot about any of this. Like I said I just want a small sound system, just to give a little more boom. I want to listen and enjoy my music. That's why I picked the 10s over 12s. I don't plan on buying a new amp or subs. I want to just use what I have. Could you guys translate into audio for dummies for me? haha I get RMS but I don't really care about how loud it doesn't go. I had it installed in my 01 ford escort Zx2 and it sound fine to me. I simply just want to transfer the subs and amp right on over to my 12 Fusion SEL with 10 speaker Sony system. I've posted pictures of the amp and subs on my profile. I'll try to post them on this post, but I haven't quite figured this out.
Vader14
The size of the sub has nothing to do with how it will play. The more cone area with all else being equal will have more output. If you want it great add a processor Good add a Audiocontrol lc2 Want it to work just get a cheap LOC
Eagl3YE
What I ment by the size of the sub, was that it hits crisper. Doesn't rumble as much as the 12s. What does a processor do?
Vader14
18s can be just as crisp as a 8. That myth was broken years ago. A processor will allow you to expand off the stock HU. A good processor ie audison bit will have more capability than every aftermarket HU except one, pioneer stage 4. They have software or like the JBL MS-8 auto tuning. Time alignment, putting the sound stage where it belongs, on your dash. Large EQs to build proper responce curves. Channel mute, phase control. A lot of advanced stuff.
