I just got back from the dealer and took a different fusion out for a test and it does the same thing. The distortion is very annoying!! I wasn't sure if it was the rear view mirror doing it or the window it's self, so when I got back to work, I grabbed just a regular mirror and looked through it out the back window. It is still distorted. So it is definitely the glass causing this issue. Now the dilemma....what will ford do to fix this???? I bought a 2015 Ford Fusion about 4 weeks ago. I noticed when looking out the rear window while going down the road that the vehicles behind me look very distorted. The vehicles would get taller and shorter, depending on where they were in the window. I went back to the dealer and complained about the defect. They had me get into another Fusion to see if that had the same defect. It did. They said it's probably the way the window is curved and it was also determined it was not the rear view mirror causing it.That's were that ended. The next thing I did was called Ford Customer service. They escalated it to their "brilliant Engineers". I received a call back several days later from the local Ford Representative. He said the "Brilliant Ford Engineers" have determined this is a normal CHARACTERISTIC since two vehicles I checked have the same DEFECT. So in other words...Deal with it. They are not going to do anything about it. This is the first and last Ford I will ever buy. Ford feels, because more than one vehicle has the same defect that this should be considered normal. akirby Posted April 8, 2015 Share Posted April 8, 2015 This is absolutely, perfectly normal. My 2006 Fusion did the same thing. It's not a defect, that's just the way the glass is made. If you can't even tell what type of vehicle is behind you because it's so stretched and deformed, that is far from normal. That is a defect. I have had multiple vehicle through out my life and NEVER had one where the rear window does this. I took a $3000 loss, but am MUCH happier with my Impala. Maybe my rear window was more warped that usual. All I know is NO Ford person took the time to even look at it. Just because I could see some distortion in one other fusion, they can make the determination that it's normal is amazing to me. The good thing is, I got rid of it. If it's safety you are worried about you are probably in more danger due to the large blind spots modern sedans. I just don't get ppl sometimes i am glad you no longer have to deal with the frustration of Ford but damn do a more thorough test drive. This wasn't my only reason for getting rid of this car, but it was at the top of the list. I was more disappointed with the response from the Ford's local rep saying the engineers determined this to be a "Normal Characteristic". One of the other issues I noticed was it always seemed to pull to the left or right depending on the road or Highway I was on. I know Michigan roads are not the greatest, but I don't notice this in my other vehicles. I took it to the dealer to look at the alignment and they say everything was good with it. I agree a Impala is a step up. Not in the same class. It was the best deal I could get which helped wipe out most the loss I took on the fusion. drolds1 Posted April 29, 2015 Share Posted April 29, 2015 This is a known issue since the 2nd-gen Fusion was introduced. See this discussion. Despite some of these early cars getting rear glass replacement under warranty, the replacements had distortion as well. This is apparently a characteristic of the compound curved rear glass in the Fusion. It has also been discussed here, which you might have seen if you'd used the search function and made your post in the appropriate subsection, to wit: Glass, Head Lights, Fog Lamps, Lenses & Window Tint. You yourself said that another Fusion you examined had the same problem. One can only conclude, then, that the "brilliant Ford engineers" gave you the proper answer. If this has been a known flaw and the brilliant engineers new this, maybe they should of corrected it in the later vehicles. I doubt most people would notice this on a test drive. They like me would be looking at the interior things. Who would expect the glass to be formed in a way that it would distort the view. If you did a search as you say, then you should have found the thread I posted the link to. Most people wouldn't notice this on a test drive? You impute your driving techniques to most people. Based on what? I think most people actually look in their view mirrors occasionally, test drive or not. In fact, defensive driving courses suggest that you should check all mirrors every 5 seconds. WRT who would expect glass to be formed that would distort the view, here's another vehicle with a steeply raked rear window that has similar complaints, except that these start at around $60G. Did you propose returning this car and getting another car or is this something you thought of today? With the itnernet at out finger tips we really have no excuse to be surprised by a vehicle.(unless it is brand new to the model year and you are one of the first to purchase). I hope you are happy with your impala but brother life is to short to be all butt sore about the way a dealer treated you or how some one responds to your post on the internet. If the dealership did you wrong take it to social media i guarantee if you put them on blast they will come apologizing. Curved glass viewed at an angle distorts things. It's simple physics. zip89105 Posted December 7, 2015 Share Posted December 7, 2015 I've got a distorted rear window view on my 2016 SE 2.0 FWD. I'm disappointed. I didn't notice it on the test drive or drive home as I was in heavy traffic. I got a great deal so maybe I should shut up, but having driven many vehicles over the years I've never seen one as bad as this. Up close or in heavy traffic the distortion is unnoticeable, but on the open road everything a 1/4 mile back or farther is distorted. I'll let Ford hear about when I get a chance to tell them how much I enjoy the vehicle, which by the way I really enjoy, until I look in the rearview mirror. Also, as a (F) Ford stockholder, I'm VERY disappointed Ford is marketing this crap. Totally unacceptable. This is my first Ford in 30 years and I'd like to be more positive.
