freik_4518
I have an 06 fusion with the 3.0 dohc v6. The engine is making knocking noises and running bad. I can't remember the exact code number but it was for the O2 sensor being "stuck open". I removed the cat from under neath no change did compression check on front 3 cylinders all above 150. But I can unplug all 3 coils on front at the same time with no change in tone or running quality. If I unplug any 1 on the rear ones the engine dies. I am totally lost is this a bad pcm. I did notice it was about 3qts low on oil (not my car I'm working on it for a friend) so I filled it back up no change any help would be greatly appreciated. They want me to change the motor.
EricFusion06
I would first disconnect the negative battery cable and do a hard reset to the computer by connecting a jumper wire from the disconnected negative battery cable to the connected positive terminal (let it sit for 20 minutes). Reconnect then start the car. If there is no difference then check for spark on the three cylinders and fuel from the injectors. If there is none then something is causing the PCM to stop sending a signal for spark or fuel (that's all I can say right now). I would definitely try to find that code though as it may have your answer. Don't assume the PCM is at fault until you have done all these things.
freik_4518
How can I test to see if the coil is good other than hooking it up in the back set
EricFusion06
I wouldn't even bother. Its very unlikely that three coils in a row go bad. My question is do any of the front coils produce spark?
freik_4518
Do I just pull one out and stick a plug in it and let the plug touch the valve cover
freik_4518
All 3 of the front coils produce spark if I unplug them I get a code for each one p0354 p0355 p0356 it smells like fuel coming out of the plug whole when I have the plug out and bot cats on monitor show the same about 1200 degrees but I noticed 02 sensor b2s1 is lower voltage than the other 3
akirby
Of course there is fuel coming out - there's nothing to ignite it! And the O2 sensor is picking up the rich condition.
freik_4518
Akirby I said I could smell fuel because Ericfusion06 asked if it was getting fuel
freik_4518
I can not get the 02 code to come back on until I unplugged the coils the only code that was showing was the p1000

EricFusion06
So lets get this straight. The coils have spark and there is fuel going to the cylinders... Right? (You can ignore the P1000, its just a OBDII code saying that system testing is not complete).
freik_4518
Correct
EricFusion06
How much lower is the voltage on the B2S1 o2 sensor? Also how are the spark plugs (condition wise)?
freik_4518
The other 3 were about .9 and b2s1 was about .2 and plugs looked ok kind of fouled
EricFusion06
Ok so basically 2 sensors are detecting a lean condition (.9) and 1 is detecting a rich condition (.2)... I would say to change the O2 sensor, but even if one was totally inoperable the car would still fire on all cylinders. The only possibility I can think of is that the engine is out of time on one side. Even If the PCM was bad the car would either not start or randomly misfire on different cylinders. I'm thinking the lack of oil may have caused damage, But try to get a Professional scan tool and check for the timing values and look at live data (with the engine running) to see if there are any abnormalities besides the o2 sensors. I'm stumped right now. Sorry
freik_4518
Same here I consider myself a pretty good technician/mechanic but this thing has me scratching my head. I will get an ethos hooked to it and see what I can come up. From what I have read it is an interference engine correct? And is there a hydraulic cam chain tensioner?
