Latest Sync Update for 10-12 Fusion with NAV

Recommended Posts

I was able to update via the website and USB stick based on my owner account at Ford,

it now brought my sync to version 4.4

Mine was 3.2.2 for a long time until recently they came out with a new update.

the voice response commands work a bit better and understand me more. everything else seems good as well.

I have the Factory NAV version, that also had been updated from to 7.0x with Gracenote update previously.

The latest Sync update is only available for the 2011-2012 Nav systems, not the 2010 for some reason.

Keep in mind what you updated is only Sync, not the Nav system. That means only the bluetooth, USB and phone functions. All of the Navigation, climate and radio controls are not part of Sync and are not part of this update.

I know that sync updates and nav updates are separate, I was just mentioning that my current radio background had Navteq 7.X when it use to be 4.X from the factory, yes I got that update from Navteq, that includes gracenote and NAV map/software updates. but with the new sync update, it had some improvements on sync features. I guess its not available for 2010 yet. mine is a 1st generation system too.

Hi Fusionpursuit,

Check to see if V4.4 is available for your system from your account at: owner.ford.com If I'm not mistaking, you should have the option to download it. Let me know if you don't see it.

Hey all, I just got a 2012 SEL with the Sony and voice navigation system. Finally created an account on Ford's site, got the update, and installed it but... as far as I can tell the change log stating that they fixed the bluetooth reconnect is a complete lie. Every damn time I get in this thing it switches back to the line-in user input. I've tried all kinds of combinations I've read about online to get the damn system to remember to go back to the last input it was using when turned off (Bluetooth) but it won't.

I just want to be able to get in the car and not have to press/speak voice commands to listen to my music via BT. I called Ford and they said this 4.4 update would fix that but so far I haven't had any luck. A few posts I read on the Sync community forums claim theirs works now or how they "accidentally" got it to work when it didn't immediately, and I can't get it to work.

I've restored factory settings and done a master reset about 3 times too. Has anyone got this working?!

Hi Mike,

The issue with SYNC automatically switching to Bluetooth as the audio source is being addressed in the near future with the next SYNC update. There are some customers who do not have this issue, but we haven't been able to determine what differences play a part in the feature functioning as designed.

I recommend periodically checking your SYNC account for the next update, which again will remedy this issue.

I hope this helps. :)

Whitney,

Thanks for the reply. I'm confused then why the change log states it is fixed. Are you implying that the fix was applied to the 4.4 update but for reasons that can't be determined yet, the fix simply doesn't work on some cars?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

You're welcome. That is exactly what I meant.

Also, I just replied to your PM. Check it out.

I tried to install the Sync version 4.4 update today with no success. I followed the instructions from the Sync web site exactly, but when I got to step number 5, that's where things fell apart. According to the web site, "Sync USB" is supposed to appear in the display. It never did. All I saw on the radio's screen was "Play Menu" from step number 4. Step 6 says when the prompts display, press Seek until "Install Applications" appears and then press OK. Even though I never made it through step 5, I thought I would give it a try. No luck. I got a lot of choices, but Install Applications was not one of them. So, I aborted the process and tried again.

I checked to make sure the downloaded file had unzipped correctly, and all files were copied on to the USB drive. They were. I then downloaded the zip file again, unzipped it and put it on the USB drive again. All files appeared to have been copied properly. This time I took my computer genius son out to the car with me, and we tried again. Same thing--we never got the display Sync USB in step 5. We tried a couple more times, but no luck.

Does anyone have any experience in installing this update? If you know something I might have missed, I sure would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks

When you finish the download you have a filename.zip file and the directions tell you to unzip it. Then you have a folder named "filename" (matches the original filename.zip) and inside it are files. Put the files onto the flash drive, not the folder with files in it, just the files. I just updated and didn't see this explained in the directions. Just thought I'd offer that for help as I have the navigation unit.

Thanks for the advice. I just unzipped it as called for in the instructions, and this resulted in two files plus the folder in the root directory of the USB. The folder contained a bunch of other files. I copied these to the root directory and then deleted the files. I'll try again tomorrow and see what happens. BTW, I don't have nav in my car, but the update process should be pretty much the same.

Hi propwash,

The USB should contain 3 items in the route directory. If you see SyncMyRide, install.lst, and autoinstall, lst then you have properly loaded the USB and should be able to complete the installation.

Try pressing AUX, then press MENU, use the seek arrows to scroll through that menu until you see SYSTEM SETTINGS, press OK, then scroll until you see INSTALL APPLICATIONS, and press OK.

I hope this helps; let me know how it goes.

I did try reformatting a couple of times yesterday, but it didn't help. I was finally able to get the update installed with the help of Whitney's suggestions. I had to make a couple of changes in the procedure, however. I used the MENU button to get to System Settings. So far, so good. At this point I started scrolling, but Install Applications never appeared in the display. I took a chance and clicked OK when Advanced appeared in the display. After a little scrolling, it took me to the Install Applications screen, and I was able to successfully complete the installation from there. Thanks to everyone for your help.

I've been on the latest update for my 2010 a while. I would say a few weeks after it came out. I hate the update. I have a 2010 sony nav unit and the update created issues where when a phone call comes in or I make a call I would say 1 out of 10 calls has no audio and I have to switch to my phone. When I switch to my phone the call is there. I have an HTC M8 and never had this problem before the update. Also when you answer there is a very annoying delay and the radio will ring an additional time, and the person calling can hear the additional ring! This happens on every call. Again, didn't happen prior to the update.

I also hate that the media source defaults to line in. When I start the car you can see it switch from btst to line in. Infuriating! There is an option for autoplay, which to me should make people that don't want bluetooth audio to automatically play happy. The auto plya setting is useless though. Why force everyone to default to line in?

When using pandora I would say 1 out of 50 times it will display artist and track name. Nice feature but it's extremely lacking in reliability.

The one thing that I do like about the update is text messaging works. That's about the only thing that works correctly, and it reads the text which is really helpful. The canned replies leave a little to be desired, too bad you can't speak a text message reply.

I really wish I could go back to the old version so I could have reliable phone calls and stay on btst when I turn the car back on.

Hey Propwash,

I apologize for skipping the ADVANCED step; however, I'm glad you were able to complete the installation.

Let me know if you ever have any other questions. :-)

Hi jlong,

Have you tried performing a master reset since installing the update? If not give it a try: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/sync-with-navigation/software-updates/how-to-perform-a-master-reset.html

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply. If I do that will it also delete any music I have saved to the hard drive?

Has anyone else seen their touchscreen lock up since the 4.4 update? Every few weeks, when I select Phone->Sync Apps->Mobile Apps the display will freeze (with the button showing inverse text) and not go to the next screen showing the apps on my Android phone (e.g. Spotify.) The other options under Sync Apps continue to work. Once in this state, the only way to recover and get Mobile Apps to work again is to pull the #13 fuse for the Sync system. Nothing else (master reset, delete/re-pair phone, etc.) works, only a fuse pull will restore normal operation. I never had this issue until upgrading to 4.4.

This is really annoying and I have not been able to determine any trigger. It just seems to be random.

I also have the same issue as jlong with the system playing one additional ring after answering a call.

Hi atx32,

I too have not heard of this problem. I recommend contacting your dealership for service. You should not have to pull the fuse to resolve such an issue.

You may want to also test another device if you can. This may help to diagnose the issue and narrow down the cause.

Please let me know how it goes.
