Latest Sync Update for 10-12 Fusion with NAV

Recommended Posts

I recommend periodically checking your SYNC account for the next update, which again will remedy this issue.

We don't have an ETA just yet, but the update is due to be released in the very near future.

Nothing on the update release just yet. I'll let you know something as soon as it comes out.

We are diligently working on the release of Gen 1 V4.6. Please stay tuned

Our engineers are actively working to get it released. Your patience is really appreciated during this time.

Any wagers on this making a full year without an update?! Maybe they've adopted a junkyard strategy for the fix and are betting on us ditching the cars first?

Thats a sucker bet.........Since Ford has migrated to a different system (They went from Microsoft to Blackberry) for SYNC I dont see them actively trying to keep the older version working properly. I"ll give them a bit more time to hang themselves.

I've been down that road before with my old Kenwood 990HD... no updates for over a year... then .... suddenly there was an update... not long after I upgraded to a Pioneer 8100..

That will be going in my car tomorrow.... I'm hoping that when (if?) the next Sync update becomes available I'll be able to do it... this install is not supposed to affect Sync at all... except there will not be a stock radio for it to see.

What I've seen so far is that the list of commends is VERY small for my unit, but on top of that I can't tell Sync to do anything with my iPod Touch... it tells me it doesn't work with that device... I'd think that then the iPhones will not work either... good thing I'm Android. 8)

Well it's in.

I like that I was able to keep the Sync stuff, but I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to update the OS on it, as the buttons that you'd use to navigate to the menus is not there now...

I'm hoping that someone here has put in a 3rd party nav, and kept the Sync and knows how or IF you can do more than see the Time, Temps and the info from the HU (like artist and song and Radio station numbers. 8)

If not , it's not a big deal, the HU works flalessly... so far it seems to work better then when it was in my old car. 8)

I logged into my Ford account today (11/2/2016) and it says there is an update available...

However, when I click the blue "Download SYNC Update" button I get redirected to a new page with a system error stating the service is temporarily unavailable.

Not sure if that means I can download it or not. it also says to run a vehicle health report prior to downloading. Perhaps that is the reason for the error. I will have to try it later this afternoon.

Could be promising... hopefully?

Hey Mike7143,

If you're still experiencing issues with the download, please send the VIN in a PM.

Cara,

Yes, the website is still showing the same error. After clicking the blue Request Download button I get a popup stating to check my email in a few minutes for a link back to the Ford site to download the update. Then I get the system error again that was shown when loading the page.

It's been more than 12 hours since I've requested the download and have not got an email yet. I verified it was not deleted by my email spam filter also.

I have sent you my vehicle's VIN in a PM.

Thanks,

Mike

@FordIVTteam

Has there been any progress on getting this fixed? Even today I still get the same website system error when requesting a download. See attached screenshot.

Hey Bill,

We're aware that this has been an ongoing issue. Please PM the VIN for further troubleshooting.

Cara,

You had me PM you my vehilcle's VIN as well. I also sent you more information about accessing the Ford website which I also sent for your "case". Can you PM me any updates?

Thanks,

Mike

My PM from FordIVTteam indicated that the error was a known issue and is being researched. I was also told I would be contacted when a resolution is made...

Let's see how long that takes...

Also of note: the resolution could be that the update is made available but I'm guessing more than likely they'll "fix the glitch" and we'll be left waiting.

Hi Mike,

The issue with SYNC automatically switching to Bluetooth as the audio source is being addressed in the near future with the next SYNC update. There are some customers who do not have this issue, but we haven't been able to determine what differences play a part in the feature functioning as designed.

I recommend periodically checking your SYNC account for the next update, which again will remedy this issue.

I hope this helps. :)

Whitney/Cara,

It appears that there is finally an update to the SYNC system, version 4.6. Can you verify whether or not the issue with the Bluetooth audio input selection being lost after cycling the ignition has been remedied, as indicated in August of 2015? The change log for the new version doesn't explicitly mention it unlike the previous change logs did that you had mentioned was being addressed.

Thanks,

Mike L.

Mike, I updated to 4.6 today and it does not fix that issue.

Ugh. I just installed the 4.6 update. The issue STILL exists. I can't figure out how the software engineers at Ford haven't been able to fix this, twice now, over three YEARS and at least two software updates. That's absurd and embarrassing.

I had a short glimpse of hope that were ultimately a fleeting moment. After installing the update I switched to the Bluetooth user input and listened to music while on the way to work. When I got to work, I parked, turned the car off, sat for a few minutes, and then restarted the car. For approximately 2 seconds, it was actually still set to the Bluetooth user input. But after the 2 seconds, it switched back to AUX IN wired user input. It almost seemed like maybe the update actually fixed the issue except that maybe there's too short of a "timeout" and if the phone/car could reconnect the Bluetooth connection fast enough maybe it'd have stayed. Unfortunately it had changed back to AUX IN and then shortly AFTER changing back it showed the Bluetooth indicator and notification that my phone was connected.

I have no idea if that's what's happening, but perhaps the system, on start-up, looks for the paired phone for X seconds and if somehow it were able to reconnect before X seconds it'd stay on Bluetooth, but perhaps because the X second timeout is too short it's reverting to AUX IN since it doesn't think the Bluetooth device is around? Who knows.

Absolutely absurd. And to add insult to injury, each day that goes by Ford will care less and less about fixing it. If they ever update it again, based on previous updates, I'm guessing a new update won't roll out till 2019, maybe 2020?

Whitney,

The latest update to 4.6 did not remedy the issue. Do you know if and when there will be another update to remedy this issue?

Thanks,

Mike L.

Update from the downgrade B)

When I initially had 4.4, streaming audio over bluetooth would just show "Bluetooth Audio" on the screen. Upgrading to 4.6 seemed to solve that and show the actual Artist and Track Name, podcast info, youtube info, etc.

After downgrading with the files in the link, it is showing the proper text information on the screen when streaming bluetooth and as mentioned before, my Siri activation via the Home button is working great!

Only downside, is the "bluedooth" speech issue, which I don't remember having with my initial version of 4.4. LOL

It's interesting to me that different vehicles using the "same" sync version, have their own quirks.

I've never been able to get the "remember last input" feature to work. Turn off ignition with Bluetooth and when you come back it defaults to AUX line-in. Others claim theirs work, but it's never worked on mine.

"same" software, "same" hardware(?), different cars. At this point I doubt Ford will ever fix it. Is @FordIVTteam still around on the forum to offer any update? Last visit was January 30, 2017...

So even with 4.4 installed it doesn't remember the last input? 4.4 and 4.6 both remember it 99.9% of the time (I think I understand the .1% of the time it doesn't) for me, only about 10% of the time do I have to press anything to get my music going in Pandora in Android Auto. Sometimes when it does the 911 assist set to off text (no announcement with 4.4 or 4.6, you can turn it off!) comes up it pauses and doesn't continue the music, I can press Media button on steering wheel and say play, or press play in AA, or sometimes once I have waited 15 seconds it starts on its own.

It isn't perfect, and does require a little finesse sometimes, but for me it is good enough that I don't feel the need to replace it with an aftermarket head unit...yet. Having SYNC 3 in my 2017 Escape is light years ahead of SYNC in the 2012, but it was part of a $2,000  package! My wife drives it more, and it is more important for it to just work 100% of the time. I don't mind a little fighting with it, I fight all day with hardware and software already. I haven't had much time to play with SYNC in my 2015 (well, my daughters) but she has only called me once in distress when her phone wouldn't connect. I consider it a safety feature for her, Seri Eyes and streaming and turn by turn directions helps keep her focused on aggressive driving in a college town.

4.4 wouldn't go back to Bluetooth input, nor the version before it. Waited a year and a half for the 4.6 update that Ford claimed would fix the known issue. Like a kid on Christmas morning, updated to 4.6 as soon as I could and, surprise, still not fixed. To my knowledge, it's never worked on my 2012 SEL and probably never will given that it's now 6 years old.
