Dougie99
Currently looking at some new wheels for my 2012 Fusion SE. Current O.E.M. rims are 17x7.5 with a high positive offset of +42 mm. Looking at a set of SSR wheels that are available in a couple different sizes that I believe may be compatible with my '12 Fusion. I'm looking to go a little wider and up to an 18 rim, from 17" rims. The two choices are: 18x8.5" 5x114.3, 40mm offset....or.... 18x8" 5x114.3, 35mm offset Looking for advice on which wheel is the better fit (and easier to buy tires for)? Taking into considering the wider rim (8.5mm) has a higher positive offset that is actually closer to the OEM wheels currently on the car - is what's making it hard for me to pick. That and an 8.5" wide rim may be too wide. As mentioned, both rims have the correct bolt pattern of 5x114.3 Thanks
fusionff
Go with the 18x8 out of those choices. A 225/45/18 or 235/45/18 tire (which I have) will work perfectly. Don't forget the hub rings too. A 8.5" wheel that has an offset of 40mm is 3mm more than you should go, possibly causing some rubbing on the inside.
Dougie99
Ahh...thanks for the response. Centric 'hub rings' ? Sold separately?? : / So the 18x8" is the best (safest) rim. Don't laugh but I was wanting to throw on some SSR GTV01 The 18x8" have Offset of +35 Hub bore of 73 What mm of hub rings? 73? Brand? Material? Will it work? Thanks for the info! fusionff
Hub rings Choose part # 1SB2BB73671 (73-67.1mm) from the list. It says sold in pairs, so order two packages. Or you can find them on other sites too, you can find them in plastic or aluminum, but both are fine, and prices will vary. Usually any site or shop will have them available for purchase. Nice looking wheels.
Dougie99
WoW! Thanks for the information Fusionff. I'm glad you mentioned the centric rings. I think I'd rather go with the OEM SSR rings so thanks for taking the time to include the parts # in your reply. That brought me directly to the site to purchase OEM parts I think all, or most all wheel distributors don't include hub centric rings, lug nuts or TPMS - along with the wheel purchase unless you specify. A friend told me the TPMS's from my old rims can't be used on the new rims. True? Given all my specs, do you have a specific TPMS that will work? I read if it's not installed, or just something to cancel out the light - dash light stays on... = / The store I may buy from (Trends-auto) may sell too but want an alternative seller just incase they go overboard $$ for all the extras (TPMS, Lug Nuts, etc.) Which lug nuts would you go with (off the same site as the centric rings you gave me)? Tks! Edited May 7, 2015 by Dougie99
Mike7143
I'm still waiting for my 2012 Fusion SEL to be delivered from the auction but I've already started looking at wheels. Based on Dougie99's first post the rims on my '12 SEL should be 17x7.5 and a 5 x 114.3 bolt pattern and an offset of +42mm. I'm looking for a set of the optional 18" wheels but I don't know what they're called so searching for them is difficult. Is Hollander 3801 what I'm talking about? I assume eBay, Craigslist, and the for sale/wanted section here would be my best bet on finding them? If I want to be adventurous and branch out on my search for other wheels, I understand I probably want 18x8 with the 5 x 114.3 bolt pattern and the hub needs to be 67.1 or LARGER and I'd have to get rings. It COULD be smaller but then I'd have to have them machined larger? What I'm more confused on is the offset. The stock is +42mm (?). If I find something that is +35mm does that mean that the tire will sit 7mm further INTO the car or 7mm further OUT from the car? I assume there's a recommended minimum and maximum so I'm not rubbing the suspension inside or ripping my fender open... can anyone confirm for me if my translation of the sticky post over at the other forum is correct? 18x7.5 wheel is best to have anywhere from +20 to a +50 offset 18x8 wheel is best to have anywhere from a +26 to a +44 offset 18x8.5 wheel is best to have anywhere from a +32 to a +37 offset Can't wait for my car to arrive! Thanks, Mike Edited August 13, 2015 by Mike7143
fusionff
A lower offset will push the wheel farther out. And the wheel fitment sticky over at FFC is correct.
