2011 Fusion SE won't turn over??

I am in need of help, a 2011 Fusion SE 2.5L won't start, will only make a click. Also the transmission indicator in the cluster doesn't indicate what gear I have selected (All the gear indicators are white). Tried both PARK & NEUTRAL postions...no luck. It has been in an accident (auction purchase). No airbags were deployed, but the car sat on the lot with a stone dead battery for over 5 months. The battery is recharged, and I checked the fuses/relays. All other systems appear functional. Is there a module that needs to be reset? Could this be the result of the Ford PATS system not allowing the car to crank because it no longer recognizes the key transponder? Any help would be appreciated!

I think if it's a security code issue the anti-theft light would flash rapidly or something like that. It's possible there is a connector/wire issue and it doesn't know what gear is selected, so it locks out the starter. Essentially, the neutral safetey switch, or whatever serves as it's equivalent these days.

In a moderate to severe accident, that vehicle is equipped with a automatic fuel pump shut-off switch that may activate. The reset button is located on the passenger side, under and behind the glove box near the corner of the foot well. Look up behind the glove box to see it. (use a mirror if necessary) Then push the reset button in.

It should at least turn over. Are you using the programmed key for that car?

I think the fact that the shift indicator is all white means the computer doesn't know what gear is selected. That is why it only clicks as some relays turn on, but the starter is disabled for safety so it won't start while in gear. I'd think a disabled fuel pump would crank, but not start.

Are you sure the battery is good. When a battery goes full dead, its life is greatly reduced. Charging a dead battery does not necessarily make it good. Have the battery checked out under load.

A battery that old is on borrowed time at best. Just my two..

I can't remember the time I got more than 3.5 years out of a battery.

It's that GA heat, Allen. ;) The Costco battery in my other car is 7½ years old. Granted, I don't drive it much but by the same token, it doesn't get charged fully too often either.

OP: Do the other electrical accessories function? Have you tried connecting a scanner to see if there are stored codes?

Yes, the heat is a killer and not just for the batteries. It was 97 last week (and today).

I bought a C-tek charger that will also recondition a slightly sulfated batter and should extend the life. Also bought a good tester. Trying to be a little more proactive with the battery maintenance after having more problems than usual recently.

Heat is definitely The major factor in the lifespan of the battery. Cold is no joke either. Where I live it can be -20' sustained. My car even with a block heater, sounds to give it all its got (of course the heat is running full blast continuously). Some surely do, but In 30+ years here, I don't think one has lasted us more than five.
