Nuke
Good Afternoon, I have a 2011 Ford Fusion SE with the 2.5L 4 Cylinder engine and it is FWD. I was replacing the battery on this vehicle today, and the postive battery terminal has multiple leads attached to a "block" See attachment... I have called Ford, and in order to replace this one component, I have to purchase a whole harness, which I do not need. Does anybody know if this block is special, meaning it reduces current or voltage to some of the leads that are attached to it, or can I just replace this with a marine battery terminal where all of the leads are connected to the same post? We bought this vehicle new from the dealer so this is an OEM component. Thanks in advance!
drolds1
Are you having issues? From the picture that looks like it could be cleaned up and returned to service. I wouldn't cut that off and replace it with any terminal. You're asking for trouble doing that in a modern car.
Nuke
The problem is not the corrosion, the clamp that goes onto the battery terminal is about to fall off due to the corrosion. I am going to use some baking soda to clean up the corrosion, and then I will not take that component apart since there are two inline fuses that will most likely cause me problems if they are not in the circuit. I am going to have to attach that component (in the picture) to the battery with a new clamp. Should be pretty easy, thanks for the response.
drolds1
I figured there might be fuses of circuit breakers in that terminal.
don24mac
I had the positive terminal on my 2011 SEL look like that two months ago. I bought some battery terminal cleaner in a spray can at the auto parts store and used a toothbrush to clean it all off. I cut the bottom off a gallon jug so I could wash the terminal after scrubbing, then wash again with the corrosion laden water draining into the jug bottom, and not onto the car. Took me about two hours or so to get it all off. The baking soda will work, but I think the spray product works better in removing the copper oxide. After thoroughly and meticulously cleaning that terminal, It's working fine and looks completely clean. The problem with those OEM Motorcraft batteries is that they can crack or leak around the positive terminal. I've never had a battery that lasted less than five years before. But, that battery was spent. And, the cover over the positive terminal prevents you from seeing the corrosion unless you specifically look. With the new battery, I used the spray battery terminal protector on each terminal to minimize the possibility of it happening again. Edited to Add: I didn't notice any fuses or CBs on that terminal while I was cleaning it or after it was cleaned. Looked just like a large terminal block with multiple connections. Lasvegasgroove
I am having the same problem as Nuke. Mine ended up breaking off. Poor and flimsy design. Not a very solid piece. I might just have to rig something up. Nuke, did you come up with a solution?

While it is still possible he may reply back, Nuke has not been active here since June, 2015. Wanted to let you know that, in case you had not seen his last activity date. Hopefully another member may jump in with some advice for you. Good luck.
