Headlight go on with Gear shit to D

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I have a 2010 fusion hybrid. They told me it was from Canda when i bought it. Each time i shift the gear to D the headlights go on. Could anyone tell me how to disable this feature? Or is it just a malfunction? What should i check?

In my opinion, the day time running lights are a great safety feature. Depending on the vehicle colour, sometimes the lights will get your attention before the car coming towards you can be seen. As when you are passing (overtaking) a car on a two lane road.

I know that most drivers in the USA will disagree with me!

I understand it allows you to see some cars sooner with them than without them. However, I think that only happens at longer distances where a collision is not imminent.

If you look but don't see a car that's close enough to actually hit you then I don't think DRLs would make a difference. Most people simply don't look at all.

Most people have peripheral vision. That's the thing where bright things off to the side catch your attention even when you're not looking.

To the OP, leave your DRLs on, but be aware that you still need to turn on the headlights (or use autolamps) for night driving.

I understand that only the dealer can disable this feature? Isn't there any setting or procedure I can do on my own to cancel the DRLs?

You have a Canadian car, and DRLs are a mandated safety feature in Canada, so there cannot be a way for a customer to turn them off by law.

In the US Ford has only just now finally realized enough people are interested in DRLs that they do allow customers to turn the feature on and off in some 2015 and newer models.

I thought that really came with the LED DRLs.
