New throttle body and steering recall

I recently started experiencing the infamous wrench light. I had noticed my fuel mileage hasn't been as good the past couple of fill ups, but wasn't sure if it was related to the oppressive heat we've been having in my area and the additional a/c running that comes along with out. On Sunday evening I get a wrench light, restart the cat and it goes away. Monday morning it comes back, the car died once, and at steady throttle it started bucking a little. I call the local Ford dealer and get a Tuesday morning appointment. I like to never make it in on Tuesday, the car kept defaulting to a safe mode and would only get up to about 10mph. After a little shoulder driving and a couple restarts it finally takes back off.

Of course I get to the dealer and it is definitely the throttle body. They didn't give me any grief about it and honored the warranty as they should.

While I was in I asked about the recent recall for the power steering concerns, even though I haven't experienced Abby issues yet. They went ahead and checked that out ave did their thing.

It was about three hours to get everything taken care of. Just thought I'd share my recent experience. If you're in the Lexington area Paul Miller Ford is a pretty decent place to go, a little pushy on some services that may or may not be needed, (alignments, battery services, wipers, etc), but it's easy enough to agree or disagree with their recommendations.

I have a 2010 fusion hybrid with all the throttle body synthoms... the dealer claimed my car went into limp mode and replaced throttle body.($452) Unfortunately, the hybrids are NOT covered by the extended warranty yet the dealer says the throttle body and engine are the same part number. Ford complaint line only noted my issue and reaffirmed what the dealer told me. Seems to me that ford needs to expand warranty to a part number not specific car models. Anyone have any ideas where to go next to get rembursment from Ford?

I have noticed a chuggy idle at start a few times( that I chalked up to cold temps) and the wrench light once. so far, the car runs pretty good. 2012 SEL V6 with 34k.

I wonder if a dealer will honor this recall as the car was purchased at CarMax..

The warranty on these is 10 years/150K miles from the original purchase date. Recalls have to be honored under federal law regardless of where you bought the car. A "chuggy" idle at cold start isn't one of the symptoms that prompted the recall, however. This sounds like something else going on. This is not normal for a FI car. Any Ford dealer will be able to determine if your car has already had the TB replaced under this campaign. If so, it's not eligible again. Since the wrench light went on once, you might want to see if there's a retained trouble code.

2010 Fusion Hybrid, 78,000 miles, always serviced at the selling dealer except for keeping tires inflated, oil and coolant checks. It's been a reliable car, but now we have the infamous Wrench light. We called the dealer and he said to turn the engine off and back on - the light will go away. It did. Last week. For about three episodes. We called again to tell him about the recurring light. He told us it'd be a 8-10 days before he could fix it, so we set an appointment.

Three days later and the light is on during every drive after about 2 miles of driving at 50mph. It stays on until the car is shut off. We have had no drive-ability issues thus far, but last night on a 35 mile trip at 65-70MPH in 90F temps, the Wrench light came on and stayed on with two wrenches - the large one with a smaller one to the left of the original larger one. It was off when we began the return home, but it came on again after about 10 minutes.

I've done some research and the dealer parts department says throttle body DS7Z--9E926-D "is in short supply and high demand because of a recall". The service department says the recall doesn't apply to our Hybrid car.

I've been a supporter of this dealer since the car was new, but if they decide to charge $100 diagnostic fee + $120/hr + on top of $95.48 (including tax) for this part, I'll pay the diagnostic fee, then get a new genuine Ford part with Ford parts warranty online for $68.03 (including tax and shipping) and install it myself inside of 30 minutes. I'll even put on a new gasket for less than $3 and they won't see this car again.

It sounds like Ford didn't get enough gripes from Hybrid owners to include them in the recall (probably because they sold fewer Hybrids), so the Hybrids aren't included in the recall. Bad news!

I worked as the assistant service manager and as the parts manager at a well known auto dealership, I understand the rules and the recalls. They are what they are, but....

Honestly, you'd be better off changing the throttle body yourself, if needs to be done. I did mine about 6 months ago... took me all of about 25 minutes, including disconnecting the air intake, etc.. SUPER easy.

Interestingly enough, the one I took off the car was the factory original, with over 224,000 miles on it.
