SWEETNESS
I noticed a high pitch whine coming from my 07 Fusion V6 AWD, that I couldn't nail down where it was coming from. Dropped off at dealer for service and told them about it. Received call later that noise was from rear drive shaft and it would have to be replaced. Still under warranty :D Has anyone else had this type of problem yet?

Running fine now.

I saw your comment yesterday about it going bad. Your's went out at 19,000. Mine has 25k on it. Kind of early I would think.
ctrcbob
I will have to keep an eye (or ear) on mine, as I have 24k on it. Don't know what a carrier bearing is, but will keep that name in the back of my mind.
Jimmy G
I will have to keep an eye (or ear) on mine, as I have 24k on it. Don't know what a carrier bearing is, but will keep that name in the back of my mind. The rear drive shaft is in 2 sections. The carrier bearings support the sections. I only had 10,000 miles on mine when it went. It started as a low whine, almost like tire noise and got progressively worse.

Local service dept called, parts are in and hopefully will be fixed next week.
spoken20
I encountered the same problem with whining noise. What seems to be the problem with it? I don't know when it started. Computer Cable
crazyfazy_7
I'm glad I checked this site out. My '07 Fusion has 27K and has started the same whine your talking about. My wife took it to the dealer and was told it has something to do with the balance of the driveshaft. Luckily, it's still under warranty. I wonder if the driveshafts are not properly balanced from the factory and this is what's causing the carrier bearing to fail?
HIDfusion
i have a 2008 Fusion SEL AWD and i took it to the dealership and they told me i need a new drive shaft as well. but i also have a vibration at 50 mph and they said it was related to it. did anyone else have a vibration?
Jebie
I am having a similar problem with my '08 Milan. The noise started out barely noticable but now (after a couple of months) is pretty easy to hear. It sounds like gear noise and increases in pitch as I speed up but is pretty much drowned out by road noise at around 40mph. At first I thought it might be tire noise but it is the same no matter what surface I drive on. The dealer couldn't hear it when I brought the car in a month ago. I am waiting a while until it is very obvious before I bring it back (it is almost ready now). My car has 17,000.
