jeffpkoon
2013 Fusion SE, 81000 miles. When driving, I sometimes hear a noise coming from the vicinity of the gas filler. The noise sounds for all the world like the car is passing gas. Last night I heard it, and when I pulled into a service station I opened the filler door. I pushed on the opening to the tank, and sure enough it sounded like a big fart. It seems pressure is building up in the tank, and it causes the filler tube flaps to vibrate. Possibly related, every time I stop to get gas the car is hard to start and runs rough for a few seconds after. Every time. Any ideas on a solution to this?

ksagy1234
I was just curious if there was a solution found? My car started doing the exact same thing this morning! Ive also experienced the same issues prior with my car running rough right after filling up. It was doing that since I bought it over a year ago... and just this morning it started "farting"
akirby
Sounds like the evap cannister and/or the purge valve may be at fault.
jeffpkoon
So, an update to this issue. Still haven't taken it to a dealer (poor like that). Monday morning, on my way to Dialysis, the check engine light came on. When I got home, I hooked up an ODB reader to the car and found it was displaying a P1450 error code. Looking this up revealed the following: P1450 Ford - Unable to Bleed Up Bleed Fuel Tank VacuumPossible causes - Blocked EVAP canister or vent solenoid- Kinked or collasped hose between canister and fuel tank- Faulty Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor- Fuel filler cap stuck closed, preventing vacuum relief I Reset the code, and it hasn't come back yet. The car has farted once, and when I got gas today, it was hard to start. It seems to happen more when the ambient temp goes down like it has been in the mornings of late. I'll be taking it in to get checked out in a week or so. In the mean time, when it farts I stop and stick my finger in the filler cap to release some of the air.

Exact same thing on mine, the check engine comes and goes, if I let the air in by opening both flaps it and restart the car it wont do it again, also if I drive the car every few hours lets say I wont have it happen again, completely random. Check engine code: P2196 Also car does run rough after getting gas for a few seconds as you reported. 50,000 miles on my car, just got it used (about three months ago with 37,000 miles on it, work next door to Ford World Center live about 20-30 miles away), was hoping it would last longer than this before I would have to start paying for repairs so if you find out whats happening with yours maybe I can fix it myself without breaking the bank. Thanks! Edited September 12, 2015 by traviscw

traviscw
No, trying to avoid the dealer cost and wait for someone to find out what causes it. Wish I had more than the powertrain warranty.
choochi1
The check engine light came on ,not blinking just solid,i am hearing a burp when driving almost every 30 seconds, that turn out to be be from the gas tank fill where the inner cap was being sucked open by what i would assume would be the fuel pump, when i pullover and press my finger in and release it,the noise stops but returns after a few days, any one any idea if this and the check engine light on are connected? thanks Jimmy.
akirby
There is absolutely no way to tell without pulling the code. Get a code reader, get the auto parts store to read it for you or take it to a mechanic.
akirby
Also note there is a 8 yr/80K mile emissions warranty that might provide coverage so be sure to check that before having anything repaired with the fueling system.
drolds1
- Please do not post technical questions in the Welcome section. That section is intended for introductions only. Per the header: Here's the place the introduce yourself, post photos of your Fusion, Milan, MKZ, Zephyr and say hello! -You apparently have pressure building up in your fuel tank which cannot be relieved due to a variety of possible reasons. There is an existing post describing a similar issue to yours here. This post will be merged with that discussion. -As stated by akirby, no meaningful solution can be proposed without the code. bradnicholson07
Did anyone find out the solution to this? i have a 2015 with 50K. Wont start after filled up with gas. Now is making that farting noise and stalling when going down the road. Reads code P1450. Dealer says purge valve but that the purge valve is actually some hoses. And of course not covered under power train or emissions warranty??? Thanks brad
eGuru
Purge valve is part of emission control system, so warranty should apply.
jstutz101
I had the same issue and it was resolved by replacing the purge valve. ZH4020
Hello, New to the forum andI have the same problem with my 2015 Titanium Ecoboost approx 50K Miles. I have CEL on, P1450 error code, Hard Starting/Stalling after refueling. I have already replaced the Purge valve with a new OEM part and cleared the P1450 Code. I took the car and topped up the fuel tank and it was still hard to start and stalling. The CEL and P1450 returned on the drive home. Any suggestions?
Cooper
I am having this same problem. Hard to restart after getting fuel and this morning it started making a farting noise which was coming from the gas cap. When I pushed the little plastic piece in it stopped but I dont think this is going to solve the problem long term. From everything I have read it appears to be either the purge valve assembly (like described above, but didnt fix the problem) or the emission vapor canister purge valve/solenoid. Below is a link for the purge valve/solenoid. I think I am going to start with this first. http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,2014,fusion,2.0l+l4+turbocharged,3300431,exhaust+&+emission,vapor+canister+purge+valve+/+solenoid,4936

Kia
2016 Ford Fusion Eco 1.5 After went to get gas, car wont start. Just cranking. After 10mins of trying it started again, but it start to make a two second fart and vibrate from the gas tank every 10 second while driving. The next day while going to work, car stalled and stop at stop light which has never happen before. And it been doing so for many time, so everytime I drive I have to turn off the Eco so it dont shut off engine every time I break at stop light. Sometimes Engine light come on and sometimes it dont show up each day when starting the car. Took it to the shop and all machanic said they never have this issue before. They said it sound like a recall problem to them. So they recommend me to take it to the Ford Dealership and report the issue. And of course code dont show up. I also saw many people have reported this problem before and never got it fix and wanted their money on repair. So i believe that Ford need to put a recall on this. This is a brand new car after all. This symptom mostly only happen with the Ford Fusion base on most of the owner complaints. Edited October 25, 2019 by Kia

Does not happen a lot, but does happen and it is a known issue. I believe there is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for this. I'm sure another member will jump in with more information on that. You do not state whether you actually took your car back to the Ford Dealership, only that "And of course a code dont show up". Take it back to your Dealership or another one. On a related note: When refueling, do not top off the tank. Topping off the tank leads to a multitude of problems, including this one. Not saying you have done that, just giving the advice. Stop fueling after one click. Let us know how you make out and good luck. Edited October 25, 2019 by bbf2530
mvan231
Replace your evaporative canister purge valve. It happened to me as well. It's nothing safety related so there would never be a recall https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,2016,fusion,1.5l+l4+turbocharged,3330859,exhaust+&+emission,vapor+canister+purge+valve+/+solenoid,4936 Edited October 25, 2019 by mvan231
