Macflyer
Hello everyone. I am new to this site but find it very helpful. I have an '06 Fusion SEL V6, and so far I LOVE THIS CAR! Bought it new and have only had a few problems. First one was the driver's seat lumbar mechanism broke, and they fixed that free of charge since there is a TSB on this item. Well, I now have 42,000 miles on the car and my driver's door interior door handle has broken. All that is holding it together is the chrome sticker. Has anyone else had this problem? I thought it was a metal handle, but it is just plastic with a chrome sticker over the top of it. Thanks for your help. Brad

No. If you are the somewhat handy around a tool box, you can order the part and repair it yourself. It is an easy fix. You can try to find the part in a local Salvage Yard (if you have one), or you can order it through your local Ford or Lincoln Mercury Dealer, or you can order it through Ford Parts Online here: LINK: Ford Parts Online Of course those are just a few purchase an do it yourself options. Of course you can also have the Dealer or your local mechanic fix it for you. But at least you have a place to start. Good luck. :beerchug:

Dyoct
Hopefully this can help: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gtppilot/sets...57607539089979/ What the, how the hell did that happen??
gtppilot
What the, how the hell did that happen?? I assume you mean How did it break like that ? Not sure. It was like that when I got the car. I suspect a kid or someone very impatient really yanked on the handle causing the handle to fail right where the return spring rests against it. Maybe there was a defect in the plastic as well. I have read other messages stating the exact same failure.
Macflyer
Well, my driver's door handle broke EXACTLY like the one shown. I can assure you that I did not pull too hard on it or anything like that. Just a total piece of junk handle by Ford. Thank you so much for the pictures! This will make the job MUCH easier!!!
gtppilot
Glad it helped!! So far that's the only problem I had with my fusion.

riceca
Yeah this is somewhat of a common problem on these cars. I have seen quite a few of them break right at the return spring.
robfusion06
i have had this happen on my 06 fusion se 4cly i went to the parts department of my local dealership told them i needed a driverside interior door handed paid something like $15 for it and went home and installed it but they dont always have them in stock so you would have to wait a day or so
Ilovefords
I had the same thing happen yesterday on my 2010 Fusion. I went out to get in the car and the door was unlocked? When I got in the car told me I need to put the key in the ignition. When I did not do it quickly enough it the alarm went off? During the morning the locks were cycling on and off 4 times when I gt in the car? By lunch the door would no longer close because the lock on the door was in the closed position so I drove to the Ford dealer while I was holding the door closed? I love my car and other than some hunting in the transmission this has been a great car.
Boiler
I had this same thing happen to my 2007 driver door. FYI - the part number is 6E5Z-5422601-A (my local dealer had Oct 26 backorder on this and wanted about $52) Cost is about $40. You'll need 7mm & 8mm socket or nutdriver Door trim removal tool Torx bit driver (size 20 I believe). Easily done in 15 minutes. Check out the Flikr link in this thread - it is right on. I didn't have the little gasket that was pictured.

Moosehead
Haven't actually had a problem on my 2010 but they still feel like it's going to be an issue someday. Too bad.
benk016
Haven't actually had a problem on my 2010 but they still feel like it's going to be an issue someday. Too bad. In the last 3 weeks both my Drivers door and passenger front door handle have both done this. Both were done by opening the door normally not any harder than usual. The only thing I thought it could be is we've been having 95+ degree weather everyday for the past few weeks here in Oklahoma. This is on a 2008 SEL btw I'm really quite upset that both of my doors now have to be manually locked everytime I leave the car. And if i forget to unlock it with the remote it sets off the alarm when I open the doors.
redfire06
my 06 did it at the convenient mileage of 37k, but m door lock was jammed as well (fortunately unlocked) i also had the lumbar TSB and the dash noise on cold temps TSB but otherwise it has been a great car so far

Special K
I found this post while browsing the forums and just thought I'd add that I've had this happen twice since I've owned my 2006 Fusion. I bought it in mid-2007 with ~20000 miles on it, and the first time the door handle broke, it was right around 30k miles or so. I had it replaced under warranty. My door handle broke again a few weeks ago at about 60k miles. Both times it broke in the exact same spot as shown in the flickr photos above. The second time it broke I had it replaced at a local shop, although after reading that flickr guide I'm thinking I could have done it myself. This is a repeat of a post I made in another thread I found in the Interiors forum on the exact same issue.

I'm reading about several '06 broken handles, were they changed to something more substantial in the following years? TIA

TIA Mine is a 2008 SEL and both my front door handles have broke exactly the same way. So up until at least 2008 models they were using the same cheap plastic handles
