2016 Fusion Titanium with no Sync 3

Just signed up today to this forum. Bought a brand 2016 Ford Fusion Titanium AWD 2 weeks ago, love it!

One thing that I am disappointed and mad about is that of all the 2016 model year cars that have the new sync 3 installed, the 2016 Fusion is not one of them. It will only be on select 2016 model cars and on all 2017 model years

Focus, Fiesta, C-Maxx, Transit will be having it, the Fusion which is alot better than all of those will be stuck having an inferior infotainment system in Myford Touch.

How can one of the most popular Ford cars be the one that is excluded from the list, not happy with that!

Hey iamcdn,

We're working to have SYNC 3 added to all vehicle lines by the end of 2016.

Are you having issues with the current SYNC system in your vehicle?

I'm happy to help.

Whitney

Hi Whitney

I find the touchscreen not to be very responsive. I have to touch a button sometimes 3-5 times before it actually responds. The voice commands system is not very intuitive, and I find it slow when pressing a command. After watching youtube videos of how fast, responsive and intuitive the new sync 3 is makes me wish that was installed in the 2016 fusion.

90% of the 2016 model cars will get it, it just bothers me that the fusions is in the 10% that will not, when it is a very popular car

By the end of 2016 will anything be done so it can be added to the 2016 fusions so ALL 2016 model year cars have it? Not just every car except the fusion

Congrats on your new Fusion, iamcdn!

I'm Rebecca; filling in for Whitney while she's out of the office today. Not all 2016 MY vehicles will get SYNC 3, but I'm unable to speculate on why certain lines are being upgraded and others are not. Vehicles that come with MyFord touch or basic SYNC won't be able to upgrade to SYNC 3 due to the hardware and software differences between the systems.

If you'd like, we can troubleshoot your concern. Please send a private message with your VIN, the type of phone you have, and the details. :)

Rebecca

Simple - the software and/or hardware isn't ready for the Fusion. It's a different platform and has different features that have to be integrated (climate control e.g.) and tested.

They should of made the necessary changes that it would require. It's dumb that the 2016 fusion doesn't match all the other 2016 ford models that come with sync 3

It's not dumb - it's just reality. There are deadlines that have to be met in order for something to go into a specific model year. Each vehicle has different timelines and different requirements and Ford has limited resources. If they can't get sync 3 working and completely tested for a vehicle by the internal deadline they're not going to put it in. Otherwise you end up with the MFT debut fiasco in the 2011 Edge where they can't get it to work but they don't have a backup plan. They don't want to go through that again.

It's disappointing but safer to have a working MFT than a broken sync 3.

Ok fair enough.

When they update to sync 4 or 5 etc. can they make it so it fits/compatible with the 2016 fusions?

Why would you design an all new system and limit it with the hardware capabilities of an older system? That's like trying to ask Apple to make a new iPhone but saying it still has to fit inside the case from an old flip-phone.

Not asking to limit the hardware, just make it so it fits. Apple never created a flip phone, you're comparing apples to oranges in that case

Thanks for posting that! Thats a Ford Fusion alright just not the titanium model.

Shame that it wasn't ready for the 2016. I pray that in the future it will be available as an update, after watching this it gives me hope that it is possible

Ford says absolutely not.

Where did you hear that? Seems strange they would say that after seeing that video having sync 3 installed in a fusion. Unless that is a 2017 ford fusion and not a 2016 which is highly unlikely

It's a prototype. Available in 2016 means you can't get it in a Fusion until next year sometime.

You can't retrofit sync 3 software as is - the MFT hardware isn't compatible. There may be a MFT compatible version of sync 3 at some point but that's just a rumor at this point.

You could change out all the hardware like a ford engineer did on a Taurus but that would be ridiculously expensive.

Ford has said all along that it's not backwards compatible. The touch screen is completely different among other things. That video is a Ford engineer in a prototype vehicle and that's why it says available in 2016.
