carlifornia
Hey, I've got a 2012 Fusion that I do so love. The chrome grill on it I have plasti-dipped, however being that it is the grill, the plasti-dip tends to chip a lot since I do a lot of back road driving (I live out in the middle of the country) I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge on where I can find one (reasonably priced of course, I'm ballin on a college student budget here). The only one I have been able to find that is not chrome is quite expensive for each piece. If you don't have ideas on where I could buy one, what about how I could get it permanently blacked out? Maybe professionally painted or some other DIY tips?
Cobra348
On my hybrid I simply used spray paint. I went to AutoZone and got Duplicolor Universal Black Metallic and some clearcoat. Mask off the areas you want to preserve and go to town. I ended up with about 5 light coats of black followed by 3 light coats of clear. I believe it is lacquer and it is dry enough to paint over in just minutes. Stock Painted Drawback - if you sell/trade-in, this may affect the value. If you plan on keeping it a while, then go this route. As to Plasti-Dip, if you did not rough up the surface of your grille, you can peel it off and simply redo the piece. Your choice. akirby
Scuff it up, prime it and spray paint it black. It's permanent but it's pretty cheap.
