Romey
The other day I went to my dealer for regular maintenance when I was told I needed new tires soon. So I asked what would I be looking price wise and quoted me $979.79 (a set of Bridgestones, mounted & all that). I've never in my life spent nearly that much for a set so I'm asking anyone here if this is a typical ploy dealerships do to milk me or any other suggestions on getting a set for cheaper BUT done right. Thanks guys
akirby
Might be a little high but that's in the ballpark ($600-$900). Good tires ain't cheap.
andyross
You can look at online sites to see what it costs for the tires you currently have on the car as a rough guide to start. I paid just about $900 for 4 Pirelli's, mounted, new sensors, and an extended warranty (could have saved a bit without the warranty.)
fusionff
I've ordered from 'Discount Tire Direct' a few times, and glad that I did. If you don't have a B&M location near you like me, there is a list of installers on their website. The tires can be shipped straight to the installer, and the installer notifies you when the tires arrive to make an appointment for mounting and balancing. Tire rack is another site to check out. A dealer is the last place that I'd buy tires from. Edited October 11, 2015 by fusionff
Cala171
Yea, this sounds about right...I'm looking for a set of snow tires, and I've been quoted $1300 CDN for a set of 4 Blizzaks. That's $1,004 USD.
hermans
I would look at Tire Rack. Even with the extra shipping costs to CN I think you will find them much cheaper. I bought my Blizzaks from them and paid about half that price....shipping included. Yes, they do ship to Canada. I buy all my tires and wheels from them. akirby
Some dealers are price competitive on tires - just shop around to make sure.
Bman505
It's in the ballpark. As Coincidence would have it, I just got quoted about $800 USD to have a set of 4 Michelin Pilot Sport 3 put on at Costco Tire Center. I think the cost could potentially be cheaper, but I have a titanium with bigger rims. Cost included all installation, balance, etc. and also tires filled with nitrogen instead of air. (although I'm sure that is only worth a few dollars)
akirby
I use a very precise nitrogen/oxygen blend........
propwash
Me too. 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen!

Billie Ecoboost 2014
I agree with the price of tires. I have a 2014 Fusion Titanium with the 19" Y-spoke wheel package. I had to replace a tire due to a nail being just outside the plug zone. I got a couple of quotes for the 235/40R19 96V XL Continental CONTIPROCONTACT tires, starting price was about $295 for just the tire, with the installation it ended up being about $325. If I could have waited a couple of days I would have gotten a set of Michelin Primacy MXM4 for $159 per tire from Tire Rack.

You should really stop getting your special blend of nitrogen and oxygen done with earths atmosphere...... 100% nitrogen or else the extraterrestrials will troll you!!!!
andyross
The real reason for 'nitrogen' fill is that it is dry. The humidity in normal air can cause corrosion and tends to result in wider PSI changes with temperature. For a race tire, even tiny PSI changes can make a difference. For passenger cars, it's a waste of money. If you can get it free, go ahead, but I would never pay extra for it. I remember seeing some cars at a local mall with a dealer-added sticker on it, with some outrageous price for nitrogen fill (like $200+.)

I want thank everyone for your responses about this!!

Just make sure you're comparing the total installed cost for each one. Also - many local tire shops will match tirerack pricing. I know Kauffman does.
