What are some of your hobbies?

When I retired, I reverted back to my teens and 20s - building plastic models of various scales. So far ... 1/12 scale Enzo Ferrari and Porsche Carrera GT, 1/25 scale 1953 Hudson, 1956 Chrysler 300 and 1966 Mustang GT-350H. I have several 1/25 scale cars waiting on me and a relic 1/16 Hubley metal kit of a Duesenberg Phaeton.

Am trying to locate a decent condition kit of the CSS Alabama and the Cutty Sark. These were either Revell or Monogram ... can't recall which. Scale was 1/96 I think. On top of all that, I am doing genealogical research on my family. I have the maternal line pretty well outlined back to the mid 1600s and the paternal line as far back as the mid-1800s.

Very cool! Do you have any photos of them? I haven't built a model car in several years, but while cleaning the garage a few weeks back found several that I built when I was young in a rubber tote. I also have 2 that are still in the original plastic that my grandpa gave me 20+ years ago.

Collecter car auctions.

I'm a fan of auctions too! I always watch Barrett-Jackson on tv and even drive a car across the stage at the Palm Beach Auction in 2006.

@Silver14Ti - here are some Photobucket slideshows. I'm gonna warn you now ... these are attempts made after almost 40 years not doing this stuff! :) If you want, break any of the slideshows and simply pick and choose the photo you want to look at from the library.

1953 Hudson - 1/25 scale - trim around the windows really sux ... several areas could have been cleaned up better. There's a shot of me in my goggles so I can see some of the small stuff. Color is Mica Red and Italian White.

1956 Chrysler 300B - 1/25 scale - A little better. Color here is Italian Red. There is a comparison shot with the Hudson that might show the difference. Engine shot, the black thread is from the starter ... to be hooked to the battery.

1966 Mustang GT-350H - 1/25 scale - Not happy with this at all ... especially the hood. The stripe just would not lie properly so I ended up with a botched result. The black areas of the wheels (what is to be open between spokes) was painted with a toothpick because of the small area.

Porsche Carrera GT - this beauty is looonnngg - 120 photos. The Terracotta part of the interior was mixed up based on a recipe in the instructions. This is 1/12 scale so pretty good sized. Underbelly pan is all metal and comes prepainted..

On the 1/25 scale cars I used some clearcoat over the exterior colors to protect them a bit. On the Porsche I went one step further and applied a coat of Pledge with Future Shine acrylic floorwax on top. Tough and only ammonia can dissolve it once dried.

On the Enzo, Tamiya (the maker) was unclear in some steps as to positioning, so in later steps alignments were skewed some. Also I found that the vinyl tubing cuts needed to be longer or shorter when it came time to actually finsh installation (one end might be installed 20 steps before the other end is fastened). Sooo, I scrapped the entire finished model and photos of the build. I have a second one ready and waiting and will do build shots again while improving the end result with 5 pages of notes. <chuckle>

I should also note the Enzo and Porsche kits are expensive, have hundreds of tiny pieces and the parts are in plastic, etched metal, vinyl, cast metal ... with magnets, nuts, bolts, rods, screws and even the screwdrivers and a wrench to help you along. With these plan on many evenings being VERY careful and patient.

Myself, I'm into anything with an engine. I enjoy cars and have had a ton of them over the years, snowmobiles, motorcycles (dirt and street), jet skis and boats..

Also enjoy watching a good movie or playing classic arcade games in my basement (I wish the basement was larger)

Here are some photos of my setup. Nothing crazy compared to others I've seen.

I bought a couple of cars from Barrett-Jackson, Scottsdale (where I used to live), but you really need to be careful. The cars I want come during the prime time viewing and the free liquor really flows. Many buyers, fueled by alcohol, tend to drive up the prices.

Yeah, I was entertained watching the crazy bids. It's so different in person than on TV. I was actually surprised at the condition of some of the cars, but the nice ones definitely outweighed the not so nice ones.

I've also sold a few cars at the auction. They did really well.
