webibeay
Hi Folks - Took my 2014 2.0L Titanium with 16,500 miles on it to the local Valvoline Oil Change today (Ford dealer had a 2hr wait) and they noticed the coolant was low. Since it was a drive through service, I was able to see they didn't do anything and verify it was low... there are no leaks on my garage floor, and according to the service tech it was low ~3 Quarts. Any thoughts? Temp gauge is right where it should be - no warning lights or anything. According to the guy at the Oil change facility, he sees this sometimes with Turbos - Does that seem correct? Any insight that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. Will just monitor the levels for the next few weeks to see if it goes down again.
FernMTL
Your Turbo is cooled by the coolant, not by the oil. So it is normal there's some evaporation of the coolant. But 3 quarts over 16 000 miles? Don't think It,s normal.
zip89105
I call BS unless the overflow is empty. If the overflow is empty you have a serious problem. Edited January 17, 2016 by zip89105
drolds1
How did they determine that it was 3 quarts low? I don't think the coolant reservoir even holds that much. If you'd actually lost that much coolant in 16.5K miles, you'd have a serious malfunction. I agree with zip89105. It's BS. In the future, I'd avoid those quick lube places. If you don't want to wait, see if your dealer takes appointments for oil changes or find a Ford Quick Lane in your area, where no appointment is necessary. For $39.95, Ford will change your oil, rotate your tires and do a multi-point inspection. There are sometimes coupons on line for $10 off this service. It's a good deal plus you have a service history established in Ford's system. If your coolant does level happen to drop significantly, make a service appointment right away.
webibeay
Thanks for the replies folks. Yes the overflow was empty - it took 3 quarts to fill the radiator/overflow to where it needed to be. I originally had planned to go to the Quick Lane, and despite not needing an appointment I was told they had a 2hr wait and were not taking any more cars. Unfortunately this happens often - would rather have a dealer work on it. As I mentioned previously, will just keep a very close eye on it and see what happens....
