SYNC Update Software

I have been in contact with various FORD reps on the site and can report the following.

SYNC 4.4 had been pulled from the update site. Hopefully that means the new update will be available soon.

Contrary to what you may think the new update will be SYNC 4.6. What happened to SYNC 4.5? SYNC 4.5 is a factory only installation that is not and will not be available to dealers or placed on the site.

I wonder what issues SYNC 4.6 will have solved and what new issues it will contain. I hope they put all of the previously removed features back into the package that they had removed in earlier versions.

Hopefully they get done with SYNC 4.6 soon (that means within the next two weeks nit sometime in the next 6 months) and post it for all to download, install, and test.

This morning I had to take my Fusion in for recalls. I asked about the SYNC update and the dealer confirmed they have SYNC 4.6. However there would be a $100 charge to update the software. Now I know why the update has not been posted to the web. Ford wants to milk as much as possible out of its customers that updated to the flawed SYNC 4.4. Guess I go hunting for another SYNC module at a junkyard this weekend

The junkyard SYNC will have an older version of SYNC installed. I would gladly go back to an older version to avoid all of the issues I have had with 4.4

Maybe someone from FORD will see this and respond. As things stand now this will be my last ford product

Hey Chrome Dome,

We're still working on the update. It has not been released. Dealers should not be offering the update for installation just yet. Please sit tight. We will release the update for customer installation.

Hi, forgive me if I ask a stupid question

I am from Belgium; and driving the 2015 mondeo, equivalent to your Fusions.

But for us Europeans, it is brand new. We have the SYNC 2 entertainment system, operated by Microsoft.

I believe, SYNC 3 is NOT operated by Microsoft??

Is it, if needed in the future, possible to upgrade SYNC 2 to 3?

Or is it also install first new hardware?

Hi Whitney,

Will the 4.6 update be available for the 2012 Fusion SEL? Or are we stuck on 4.4? Any update as to when this will be released?

Thanks

It has been 9 months since I was told the new update would be available soon. I guess they are referring to Microsoft time when they said that. Everyone knows that Microsoft time is where your PC say download will be complete in 1 minute but takes an hour or more. At this rate the new sync updates wont be ready for another year. I am so glad I went and bought an older SYNC module and installed it. Now I don't have the annoying extra ring and the verbal communication has greatly improved. I lost some app connectivity but that is a loss I can endure so that I can have reliable and stable phone connectivity

Seriously Ford, what is going on here? I didn't realize that you have been touting this update as "coming soon" for 9 months now. How hard is it to just give us a vague timeline as to when this update will be released?

Until this update comes out, you have a ton of unhappy customers that are using a broken version of the software that should never have been released in the first place. If you want people to keep buying your cars and using your technology "features", you need to keep them working and up to date. End of story.

Hi kafox,

I'm unable to speculate on any information about future updates. Our engineers are constantly working to improve all systems. Continue to check your Owner account for any updates: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/how-tos/keep-your-sync-up-to-date.html

I recently purchased a 2012 Fusion SEL with Sync

I did the web site and the thing where you tell the car to give you an update on it's condition.

The web site said I was due for an update to Sync so I downloaded the file

expanded it and copied it to an empty flash drive

after a few attempts (the instructions are not very good BTW) I was able to figure out how to tell it to do the update, but then it said the files were wrong.

anything I can do here? No Nav BTW, just the LED single line display....

I ended up calling Ford, she said that they were aware of the problem and the 4.4 that is currently there does not work, but no word on when it will get fixed....

I'm hoping that they fix it before I put my Pioneer 8100 in , not sure if it will matter though....

I have requested to my dealer the sync update and now these are my versions:

Version CCPU S/W:3.0815128.EA.10_PRODUCT.
Version of navigation application: 5.67.2.

How many versions there are until 4.6? Is there any significative improvement?

Hey fizban,

The CCPU you provided is V3.8, which is the latest software for the MyFord Touch systems. The V4.6 update is for the Gen 1 systems. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns! :)

I have a '12 sport with the clarion nav/touch screen and sync. Would my sync update be the 4.6 or would it be a my ford touch number? I know it is a kind of bastard system compared to the standard audio/sync. Thanks to any/all for the reply.

Hey Ebony12Sport,

I’m happy to advise on the update that may be available for your SYNC. Please visit the following link to determine which type of system is in your vehicle: https://owner.ford.c...nc-version.html

Let me know, and I will certainly assist you!

The wait for an update to Gen 1 Sync is getting ridiculous. Version 4.6 has been available for some other vehicles. Has anyone tried installing it on their Fusion?

I agree that this is absolutely ridiculous. The lack of real information from anyone at Ford is also annoying. I have not tried it on my Fusion and don't plan to until it gets released for real (though it will probably be identical to the update released for the other vehicles).

What is the latest SW-update version for SYNC 2?

Where can I download it, if possible?

Hey Beethoven,

akirby is correct in stating you can download available updates from the Owner site. However, each update is vehicle specific so the latest versions will vary. If you have any questions regarding the software, send the VIN in a PM.
