Levisfusion
Hi I have a 1.6l ecoboost engine and i want to install a cold air intake just curious of what i can expect for gas milage and performance improvement or if it will even be worth it. i am looking at a k&n set up.also on another note i have a question regarding gas... What grade should i put in? my dealer told me regular when i purchased it and I've read i can use premium and see increased milage and performace? also i have a somewhat rough idle would putting premium in help?
akirby
You won't get much if any performance increase from a CAI and definitely no mpg increase. Different sound though. You may get a bit more power from premium but probably not enough to notice. A tuner is your best bet for performance.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
How many miles do you have on your Fusion? Is the rough idle only when the engine is still cold, or even after it is warmed up? Try changing the air filter, cleaning the MAP sensor (with MAF cleaner), and checking the spark plugs for wear/deposits/etc. Shouldn't have any codes set, more than likely, but pull 'em anyway JIC. What oil/filter are you running? Ecoboost engines are very sensitive to those selections.
Levisfusion
Wwwperf it's when the car warms up as well. I'm at 52k and not to sure about the filter just bought it from a Ford dealer and haven't had to do an oil change yet. I didn't notice the rough idle till after I did my first gas fill up so I was thinking it might be the low grade fuel.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Very possible. Ideally, you should use a high-volume/high-turnover gas station so the fuel is not sitting in their tanks gathering water and debris. A Top Tier station if you can. Try adding some HEET to the gas tank after you have used up a couple of gallons, then top it off to mix the HEET in the tank. Most additives don't like being the last thing added, best to add them first, then fuel up.
