blk00ss
I have a 2014 Fusion SE 2.5 with about 30K on it. I had it in the dealership a month or so ago due to a fuel tank issue. My vin wasn't part of the original recall, but they went ahead and changed the fuel tank because they didn't know what else to do or how to fix my noise. It worked...sort of. The new tank got rid of the original noise, but now when the fuel level gets to about half tank there is this annoying hum from the rear seat area. Its a hum with a faint high pitch noise. Any ideas? My assumption is for some weird reason I'm now hearing the fuel pump. I've noticed the fuel pump is quite loud when you turn the key to the on position right before you turn it over. However why I'm now able to hear it inside the car while its running at half tank or less I do not understand.
propwash
I had a similar situation with a different car. In that car, the pump was at the bottom of the tank, and the more gas you have on top of the pump (full tank), the more that gas absorbs the noise of the pump. With mine, the fuel level at which I started hearing the hum of the pump kept rising as the pump got louder and louder. I think it was about 20,000 more miles or so when the pump got so loud that I couldn't take the noise any more and replaced it. That solved the problem. I think that it was a bearing in the fuel pump that started going bad and making noise. The worse it got, the louder the noise became. Anyway, after I changed the pump I never heard any more noise, even with the tank almost empty. I'm not sure if the Fusion has the pump at the bottom of the tank as well, but if it does, that would explain how your noise is getting louder as the fuel level drops.
blk00ss
I think you are absolutely correct. I'm just wondering now if this is a common issue where I need to involve the dealership yet again
