unglued94ta
So my car blows cold air as long as I'm driving. I've noticed in the last month that if I stop moving the air quickly goes warm. I bought a couple cans of recharge refrigerant but they won't take. In fact when the compressor kicks on, it feels like it takes just a bit and the can, that should be getting cooler, gets warmer. Yes I'm on the low side. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.
andyross
Take it to an expert. Simply connecting a can is very dangerous. They need the proper gauges to see if the pressures, both high-side and low-side, are correct. Also, have you verified the cooling fan(s) are running? Also, it is somewhat normal for it to warm up a bit when stopped at idle. You can try increasing the throttle a bit and see if that makes a difference. I'm surprised you can buy refrigerant at WalMart and such. It's not like the old days. You can do some very serious damage to the system. Freakzilla
I'm having the same problem, is the radiator/condenser fan supposed to run all the time?
MightBeASynth
I'm having the same problem, is the radiator/condenser fan supposed to run all the time? No it comes on as commanded, in hotter weather you have it come on more often and at higher speeds.
mad1macs
Well I have the same problem on my 06 I-4 Fusion. The compressor will not come on, was driving and it just went out and will not come back on, the fans run as needed, except that when you turn the car off, the fan no longer runs on after like it always did before. It will not take any refrigerant either(BECAUSE THE COMPRESSOR WON'T RUN) changed out the pressure switch no change. I happen to have an identical parts car so I gots the parts, just need to know which one will make me cool again... thefoeyouknow
I'm having the same problem, is the radiator/condenser fan supposed to run all the time? With the AC on and the clutch engaging, the fan should run at low speed all the time. If the condenser gets hot, you lose AC.

Swap the evaporator temp sensor.
eGuru
You could use Forscan before plunging ahead with the evap sensor replacement to validate that the PCM thinks it is reading -40C. Even then, I would make a resistance measurement because the problem might be the HVAC controller not reading the sensor properly.
thefoeyouknow
That, and if you've been trying to add refrigerant, have the system evacuated and charged to the correct level. There's bound to be too much refrigerant in it now. If you DO need an evap temp sensor, and you DO replace it, you're likely to slug the hell out of the compressor when it finally can engage again. You can do all sorts of work on an AC system yourself, but you shouldn't mess with the sealed side of the system, refrigerant is not something to mess with without equipment and training. It's too easy to do real damage to the car and, potentially, to yourself. Edited August 16, 2016 by thefoeyouknow

Did you ever figure-out the cause? My (MMH) Hybrid is doing the exact same thing. Fine while moving, compressor shuts off at idle.
