tires/towing

I am new to this and hope my question is in the proper topic...

I just factory ordered a 09 Ford Fusion SEL 2.3L with 18" tires(blue suede pkg). I will take delivery in December. Will I need winter tires? I am an experienced driver and have had no problem with all season tires in winter. I do not know what to expect with the 18" tires included with this package. Does anybody have this package and live in a cold climate?

The Ford dealer also told me that the Fusion can pull 1000lbs(class one hitch) . Is this true? I would like to pulll a small 14' alluminum fishing boat( 500 lbs max). Thanks

Think about it that way... If you buy winter tires..... you'll have a WAY better grip, even if its cheap winter tires....Sometimes experience means nothings when an accident is about to happen. You all-season tire will also last probably 2 times longer beacause you dont put any mileage on them during winter.... so it will be quite the same.... you'll pay for winter tire, but on long term... you'll recover the money and you will drive more safely for you and the other drivers around you.

For me, i'm on Blizzak during winter..... THERES NO ALL SEASONS tire who will give me the grip that i want for my AWD fusion.

If you look in the owners manual, it says the Fusion is not rated for towing anything. I think thats because the transmissions dont have an off button for the overdrive. I havent put a hitch on my '09, but I wouldnt think towing a small load (like my Waverunner) would be any worse than having five 200lb adults in my car. I will put a Hidden Hitch on mine eventually. I tow with my little '07 2.0l Focus, so if my '09 Fusion SEL V6 Sport Package cant handle towing my Waverunner, Ford deserves to go bankrupt.

Any updates on the towing capacity/experiences with the I4 Fusions? I recently bought a left over '09 I4 manual fusion and I'm looking to install a hitch to tow my motorcycles to/from track and road trips. I would be towing about 1500lbs at the absolute most with the bikes weighing 450 lbs each(being rather liberal) + weight of the trailer and gear.

I did a search around but all of threads are rather old.

Any update would be appreciated!

Anyone figure this out? I have a 2008 i4 and want to know if it can pull a small trailor with a 500lb motorcycle. I'd most likely have no passangers while towing.

Hi rhector. :D The official answer from Ford is very clear and is printed in your Owners Manual. The Fusion is not rated for towing by Ford and Ford clearly states never to use the Fusion for towing. That is the same for all Fusions, 2006-2010.

Here is a copy and paste from your 2008 Owners Manual:

TRAILER TOWING

Never tow a trailer with this vehicle. Your vehicle is not

equipped to tow. No towing packages are available through an

authorized dealer.

Of course, some people do all sorts of things that they should not do with their vehicles. Just keep in mind that using your Fusion to tow would lead to Warranty problems should you ever have engine or transmission problems/claims during the Bumper to Bumper (3 year/36,000 mile) or Powertrain Warranties (5 years/60,000 miles). If Ford found out you were towing (i.e. seeing the trailer hitch or even the holes remaining if you remove it), they would most certainly deny those claims. And you can be sire that in major engine/transmission claims, they do check for these sorts of Warranty violations. They have Warranty Advisers trained to look for these things.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck. :beerchug:
