Can someome please help me in locating the blend door actuators on my fusion. The car is blowing nothing but warm to hot air on all vents. I had it diagnosed and it looks like the actuators need replacing. How many of these are there and where are the located? Someone please help.

For manual climate control, there is only 1 blend door actuator (LH):

Temperature Blend Door Actuator — LH

post-29148-0-02936500-1465474174_thumb.jpg

Item Part Number Description

1 — LH temperature blend door actuator electrical connector (part of 19D887)

2 W712320 LH temperature blend door actuator screw (2 required)

3 19E616 LH temperature blend door actuator

Removal and Installation

NOTE: The LH temperature blend door actuator can be accessed from below the LH side of the instrument panel to the right of the accelerator pedal.

  1. Disconnect the LH temperature blend door actuator.
  1. Remove the 2 LH temperature blend door actuator screws.
  1. Remove the LH temperature blend door actuator.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. NOTE: The purpose of the module actuator position calibration is to allow the HVAC module to reinitialize and calibrate the actuator stop points. To carry out calibration, carry out the following steps.

Remove the Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse 15 for at least one minute.
  1. NOTE: When the ignition switch is switched to the ON position, the HVAC module will initialize and calibrate the actuators. Calibration of the actuators will take approximately 30 seconds.

Reinstall SJB fuse 15. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait 30 seconds before verifying correct DEFROST/PANEL/FLOOR operation.

Thanks for the reply. I assume it would be best to go through the stereo to get to it? Or from under?

I couldn't find any info on the best way to access it.

You don't need to remove anything other than the panel under the steering column (for visibility purposes only).

Lie on the floor with your feet dangling out of the driver's door and you will be able to access the blend door actuator.

Ok...replaced the blender door and no change. It blew cold for a minute, then went hot. I did notice another blender door above the one I replaced. I guess it couldn't be the issue...

And unfortunately I can't get to from underneath.

When you adjust the temperature control, does the shaft on the blend door actuator move.

You should be able feel the end of the shaft as you adjust the control.

If it is moving freely, then you probably have an evap temp sensor issue, hvac control issue, or the evap coil is freezing up

Does the air flow volume reduce when it switches from cold to hot?

I can hear a difference when it stops blowing cold and starts blowing hot.

I turned the temperature all the way hot for about a minute, then all the way to cold. It will blow cold for like 30 seconds then go back hot. That's when I hear a difference in the sound.

Make sense?

The ac compressor is probably dropping out because the evaporator temperature sensor is trying to prevent a coil freeze up. There are 3 possibilities:

  1. The sensor is defective. This has frequently been reported on forums.
  2. The temperature controller is not reading the temperature sensor correctly.
  3. The coil is actually freezing up. Since the cooling stops so abruptly, it is probably not your case.

You should start by getting an OBDII scan tool and FORSCAN so that you can see the evap temp sensor reading.
