What does it take to have the Lane Control feature operate? Not operating on 2 2017 Titaniums or Platiniums

Recommended Posts

Have driven both 2017 Titanium AWD and Platinum AWD with BLIS and the lane keeping feature shakes the steering wheel when changing intensity (like normal to high) but absolutely fails to indicate or shake the steering wheel when driving over the lane change lines (like a drunken sailor). The blind spot feature did work on both vehicles on both sides but the lane change feature seems inoperable. Checked the options and they are properly selected.

What gives?

First, BLIS and lane keeping are separate systems. Lane keeping mainly takes input from the windshield-mounted camera. BLIS/X-traffic sensors are behind the rear fascia. The fact that BLIS was working has no relation to lane keeping functionality. Ford offered BLIS long before lane keeping was available. It's highly unlikely that it's malfunctioning in two different cars. There has to be another reason. Assuming that both 'ALERT+AID' were activated in the settings, there are a number of factors that will suppress the alert. You have to be going at least 40mph to activate the system. Using a turn signal will suppress it also. If you were driving "like a drunken sailor," this will also suppress the alert.

The system can be temporarily suppressed at any time by the following:
  • Quick braking.
  • Fast acceleration.
  • Using the turn signal indicator.
  • Evasive steering maneuver.

There are other reasons they system may not alert:

Vehicle speed is outside the operational range of the feature

Sun is shining directly into the camera lens Quick intentional lane change Staying too close to the lane marking Driving at high speeds in curves The last Alert warning or Aid intervention occurred a short time ago Ambiguous lane markings (mainly in construction zones) Rapid transition from light to dark or vice versa Sudden offset in lane markings ABS or AdvanceTrac activation Camera blockage due to dirt, grime, fog, frost or water on the windshield Driving too close to the vehicle in front of you Transitioning between no lane markings to lane markings or vice versa Standing water on the road Faint lane markings (partial yellow lane markings on concrete roads) Lane width too narrow or too wide Camera not calibrated after a windshield replacement Driving on tight roads or on uneven roads

BTW, you didn't mention whether the car attempted to steer itself back to the center of the lane.

Roads were straight and level and lane markings were standard white dashed lines. On a 3 lane road tried to make the system work form different lanes. Cars were new and had very few miles on them (12 and 70). Does the camera on the rearview mirror monitor the lane to the right of the car or the one to the left of the car? Why I tried different lanes. Still no alert. The wheel never tried to resteer itself back to the center of the lane. Did not try harsh maneuvers or use turn signals just wandered out of the lane crossing over the lane markers on a straight stretch of road. Passenger with me was also mystified as to the lack of function of the feature.

The camera monitors the lane markings of the lane you're driving in. Hence the graphic on the IP with the color-changing lines. These indicate when you're getting close to the lines or crossing over them; green yellow, red. Did you see this graphic displayed in the cluster while you were driving? If not, then the system wasn't activated. E151660_EUR.JPG

You have to press the button on the end of the steering wheel stalk to turn the system on.

:hysterical3: LOL. I assumed that was done. We'll see what the answer to the question re the icon in the cluster is. Then we'll know if the button on the turn stalk was pushed.

I realize this thread is really old, but just a quick update:

This doesn't appear to return to the setting at the last shut down any more, as of 2020 models (at least with some 2020s).

In my 2018, I turned the feature on when I got the car, and it's been on ever since.  I haven't had to think about it at all.

In my wife's 2020, she has to hit the button on the stalk every single time she wants to turn the feature on.  Which basically means the feature is just never on.  It certainly won't be on when she needs it, because that's how those things work.
