2012 P0713 code

Guys, I recently got CEL and wrench light with very erratic transmission behavior. Transmission has always been pretty sloppy, as the 6F35's are, but gotten worse over preceeding week. Car would buck when shifting from reverse to park and at times shudder very hard on downshift if you had to stop quickly. Checked the codes to find P0713 which is transmission fluid temperature sensor high input. CEL/Wrench lights would come and go for next few days when driving around neighborhood. Wrench light would also come and go whole parked, if I started and stopped the AC (which seeming odd to me). While inspecting car, I did find engine coolant level barely showing in overflow reservoir. Once filling coolant to correct level and disconnecting battery (cleaned heavy corrosion from + terminal), all seems to be well. Trans is shifting better than it has in years.

I understand there is a trans cooler in the radiator, so I am theorizing that transmission wasnt getting enough coolant, due to level??? Also, there was never a change in the Engine temp gauge or any other codes.

Do you guys think the coolant level could have been the culprit to cause the CEL/Wrench light and the code?? Thanks for the help!

Hard to say right now whether it was the coolant level or the battery "reset" that "fixed" the issue. At least we know the trans is CAPABLE of shifting better, and that's great news! How many miles on your '07?

The battery "reset" may have caused the PCM to be forced to relearn your driving style and adapt the trans shifting strategy. How old is the battery? 3 yrs or more? Probably due for a replacement anyway. Please put either felt pads under the cable terminals on the battery, or apply battery protector grease to the terminals, preferably BOTH. That should help prevent issues with corrosion/buildup.

Also possible the low coolant level was keeping the trans fluid from being adequately cooled while circulating through the radiator. In that case, I would also say you should at the very least do a 3x drain & fill of the trans fluid (not a flush), after verifying that the fluid has no debris in it (dipstick). It's a bit of a pain to service the 6F35 unless you are familiar with putting the car up on jackstands (better yet a lift), but should pay off. An independent trusted shop will be cheaper than the dealer.

Guys, I have a 2007 and a 2012, the issues I was having was with the 2012, sorry for the mix up. Just haven't updated my info under my name.

I haven't researched the drain and fill procedure, but would it be possible with ramps? Thanks for the info!

Yes it would be possible with ramps, but you have to have the car level for a proper fill. That means all 4 on ramps, which means a level surface, and ramps with built in chocks or other feature to prevent rollback/rolloff. Maybe Rhino Ramps or something similar would work ...
