The distance to empty display is only an approximation, and I've found out that every now and then the trip computer has to update the miles/km to empty, which is based on your last 500 miles/~805 km of driving. That 10 minutes of idling didn't waste any more gas than idling normally does, it's just that when the trip computer recaibrated the miles/km to empty, it compensated for the idling. It's happened to me before, I was in a Taco Bell drive through and was waiting forever, and decided to turn off the engine. Turned it back on 4 minutes later, and the miles to empty went down by about 40.
