I got my dealership to match Flood's price when I purchased my 2017 Fusion, so I was able to roll the cost into my loan. Yesterday I got a $385.60 check in the mail as a refund on my C-Max ESP.

I asked my dealer to match and he said he couldn't. I said how unfortunate for you. His jaw dropped.

I guess I have to clarify a little, my dealership didn't exactly match the Flood price, I paid my dealer's cost, or $15.00 more than the Flood price, but for all intensive purposes they matched the price and I saved hundreds of dollars. Flood sells ESP's for under dealer cost and is compensated by Ford for volume sales. Your dealership (or any dealership) may not be willing to exactly match the Flood price because they would lose money, but they have the choice to sell it to you at their cost or at a discount. Sorry I didn't add this to my previous post, but if they weren't willing or creative enough to work with you, they were probably never going to do it.

Who told you that? Your dealer? I think it's more likely that Flood sells them for a small profit that your local dealer's management will not match, for fear that others will come in and demand the same price and wipe out a big moneymaker for them.

About 10 years ago I bought a Prius (this was before the Fusion Hybrid was introduced) and the finance guy at that dealer said the normal extended warranty price was $2,195 but right now "they had a special going on" (they always pull that crap, must reel in many) and they could offer it to me for $1,695... I said no thanks as I knew there was a lower option from info on a Prius forum. So I went online and bought one from a dealer in KS for $775. After that I told my Dad and he checked with the Toyota dealer where he drives DX cars, they said the normal dealer price for that warranty is $695. So the dealer that sold me the warranty made $80 on it, and the dealer where I purchased was ready to offer me "the special they had going on" and only make $1,000 on it.

So I just think it's more likely (don't know it, just think it's more likely that's all) that your local dealer is not willing to sell at a price that low, rather than Flood or similar dealers I've seen mentioned on various forums getting preferential conditions from Ford.

In the finance managers office during the signing of the paperwork, we discussed an ESP. At that time I presented to him a printout of the Flood Ford price for a $100 deductible, 7 year/75000 mile ESP. He took out a book of tables with dealer costs and retail costs for the different levels of coverage. He showed me what his dealership's cost is, so yes, the dealership told me that and I saw the proof. The were willing to sell me an ESP at their cost, which was $15.00 more than Flood Ford's price, so based on the book I saw, Flood is selling ESP's for under dealer cost. I have a long term relationship with this dealership and have purchased 3 new Fords from them. They put a lot of emphasis on customer service and that's why I go back to them.

  • 7 months later...

I am looking at discount Ford Protect PremiumCare with Lighting and First Day Rental 6 years/$50/150,000 (Ford plan code PC6150C5)

Looked online at Anderson&Koch, Lombard, Flood, and Ziegler.

I assume (two confirmed) I don't pay sales tax.

There seems to be incentives from Ford on these? (Lombard prompted me for a discount code). This might explain why Floods prices go up and down.

Ziegler wouldn't give a full price (just the plan price -- no lighting or rental car coverage).

Prices ranged from $2545 to $2669.

One dealer presented the "First Day Rental" as "drop off and go rental". Two of three Ford Protect sales center (Ford people) said "dealer can make you wait up to 4 hours" for that Ford Protect first day rental.

Guess I'll wait and see incentives for next month. Options are at full price right now.

Given the cost of if my driver-assist rear view mirror assembly part is $1900 + (guessing) $300 in labor that would pay for the warrranty in one shot.

Any way to game this?

First Day Rental is usually a 4 hour wait type thing, unless your dealer happens to be super duper, or a LINCOLN dealer maybe :) And you don't necessarily get a 1:1 rental, meaning you may end up getting a Hyundai Accent. If you want something similar to your FFHP, I think you can pay a little extra to do so. Worth asking about.

EDIT: BTW I do not mean to knock the Accent, it was a nice pocket-size car, fun to drive around, if a bit cramped inside. I just wish the rental company (Enterprise) had bothered to check fluids in it prior to handing it over to me. NO washer fluid, coolant level almost negligible in degas bottle, etc ... I paid OOP to top them off before returning the car.

I know the dealer has a lot of sway on whether you get that first day rental. They know the "book labor" ( how much time Ford corporate thinks a local to do service job X). If that book labor is significant I would expect a car.

If you want a say on what rental car you get, that is what the Ford Protect Enhanced Rental coverage is for (on top of the First Day Rental coverage cost). The Ford rep told me that with the enhanced rental, if you bring in an F-250, then they should give you something like an F-250 (so you don't have to go to the construction site with a Hyundai loaded with 3000 lbs of cement mix (because you were too cheap to buy the Enhanced Rental coverage).
