Hanellen02
I consider my 2014 Fusion SE a new car yet the rear brakes wore out at 18,00 miles. I had to replace the rotors and pads at a cost of about $300. Really disappointed. I am a Ford man but bought an old Corolla...2003 and it runs smoother and is quicker than this Fusion I bought!! I am seriously consider a move to Japanese or Korean vehicles.
andyross
The Fusion tends to use the rear brakes more than most other cars, which tend to put most of the effort on the front brakes.
hermans
I had a 2010 Fusion that went through brakes like that.
Bob B.
2010 SEL Fusion......At 60,000 Km my front brakes show very little wear and the rear brakes are worn out. The front brake pads and rotors are heavy duty compared to the rear. I understand the newer brake proportional setup which sends more braking effort to the rear wheels. In later versions of Ford cars, has there been any change to put the heavy duty components on the rear brakes? How about other manufacturers? Regards from Canada.
TimB
Has anyone identified the problem that causes this? I replaced all the pads and had all my rotors turned... immediately after the rear brakes started dragging. I replaced the read calipers... Test the drag with the parking brake disconnected... Bled all my lines... the problem continues. Before I replace the master cylinder is there a proportioning valve on this model? Is a computer issue??? Any input would be appreciated. Bob B.
Tim, Dragging? With the car jacked up, if you spin the wheel by hand, I think that it's normal to hear the brake pad lightly touch the rotor. Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Bob.
akirby
You are correct. There will be a slight drag. One way to tell for sure if they're dragging while driving is to check rotor temps with an infrared thermometer.
TimB
When in the air they spin with minimal drag as I would expect and then once the brake is applied the caliper doesn't retract and the drag in much more noticeable. That's why I assumed it was the calipers and I replaced them. I'm onto my second set of rear brake pads in 15k miles. The first set from the factory lasted 115k.

When you are doing the test in the air, is the parking brake connected? Is there a difference in the drag between the left and right?
TimB
The second time I did the test in the air I disconnected the parking brake. When I pulled the pads and compared them both sides are wearing the same. I checked the soft hoses to make sure they're not collapsing, restricting fluid return. Considering the steps I've taken I'm fairly certain its a hydraulic issue but I'm not sure where to go from here.
