JonathanN97
Hi, I am looking at a used 2012 ford fusion SEL online and the ad says premium audio but i am trying to figure out if it actually has to sony audio or not. I couldn't find much information about 2012 fusion sound systems consistently to be confident. It looks like it has the 12 speakers but I didn't see the sony markings on the speakers, notably by the door frames by the drivers side. I can't see the rear window from the car but from looking at speaker placement around the car i would assume they have those also. I was wondering what kind of audio you think it has in it. I don't know much about the audio systems, ive seen online about a 6 speaker system, a 290 watt 12 speaker sony system, and a 12 speaker 390 watt sony system. I don't know what is true or not so if you think you could help please let me know. Im sure looking at the car in person will help but for now all i have to go with are the pictures. Thank you
fusionff
If you have the VIN, you can generate the original window sticker stating exactly how the Fusion was equipped, including what audio system it has. Enter the vehicle VIN on the page HERE.

JonathanN97
i did however find another site that did the same thing and it doesnt say that it came with an upgraded audio system. So what is the stock audio system in the car??
akirby
Did the 2012 even come with Sony audio as an option? I know the pre-2010 models had the audiophile stereo which gave you subs in the rear deck. That may be what you're seeing if it doesn't say Sony on the dash. Premium is usually the base radio/4 speakers.
andyross
On my 2011, it says 'Sony' on the door tweeters and some of the speaker grills. You will also see 5 grills in the rear deck. 2 thin ones near the glass that are actually just vents (regular cars also have them), plus the 3 rear speakers (2 subs plus center rear.)
fusionff
I think the only way to get the Sony system in 2012 was with the 'Moon & Tune Package' (Equipment Group 301A). So I'm thinking if it has the moonroof, the Sony system was included in that package. I don't think that the moonroof was available without the Sony system in 2012. Available Equipment Groups Equipment Group 301A – Moon & Tune Package includes power tilt and-slide moonroof, and Sony® Audio System with DAEP 5.1 Surround Sound, AM/FM stereo/single-CD player, MP3 capability, 12 speakers and 390 watts. Of course, I may be wrong here... Edited November 15, 2016 by fusionff
propwash
I also have a 2012 SEL. My car has the Sony audio system with 12 speakers. According to the window sticker, this sound system is part of a package that included cross traffic alert, rear view camera, rain sensing wipers, moonroof and reverse sensing system. So, it looks like the Sony system was optional on the SEL model that year.
drolds1
2012 Fusion brochure, SEL page: If it doesn't have a moon roof, it doesn't have the Sony audio. Edited November 15, 2016 by drolds1
propwash
2012 Fusion brochure, SEL page: 2012fusion_17.jpg If it doesn't have a moon roof, it doesn't have the Sony audio. Well, that's not exactly true. Mine does have the Sony audio, but there is a moon roof delete on the sticker as well. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have the audio as part of a package that includes the moon roof, and then to delete the moon roof. But that's what they did. I have an SEL with Sony audio and no moon roof.

propwash
No, I bought it used. It was listed as a personal lease vehicle, not as part of a fleet, but I suppose that Carfax could be wrong on that. I have noticed a few other SEL's without a moon roof, but these cars were moving when I saw them, so I couldn't tell if they had the Sony audio system or not.
